ECU Upgrades before boost controller??!!

OK, quick question needed on boost controllers

 

Do I need to get a new E.C.U chip upgrade before getting a boost controller or can I just buy something like an APEXI box that does everything for me?? :D

    I think the ecu comes first, if you increase the boost you are increasing the A/F ratio

    so i reckon you need the ecu with modified fueling / airflow maps to cope with the increase in boost pressure.
