Right,

As my local forum members will undoubtedly know, my exhaust has been buggered for some time now but, when it was last looked at, the cats were ok.

However, had my new cat back system fitted today and, lo and behold, it's still blowing like an overpaid whore 'cos the cats have found God (gone holy).

So, to de-cat or not to de-cat - that is the question :rolleyes: .

I know the power gains are worth it, but I am more bothered about reliability. The car has done almost 60k (miles), and I already have some smoke coming from the drivers side pipe when I pull away (particularly after the car has been standing/ticking over). Could this just be pcv's?

Your overwhelming knowledge would be appreciated :bow: .

The smoke could be PCV's or piston rings.

The only issue that decatting is known to cause is the turbo oil seals, which isnt so much a reliability issue as a pain in the ass, it appears its not so much a case of if, but when they will let go. I would imagine that the free flowing exhaust will cause a drop in back pressure anyway, so the effect of de-catting on top may well be minimal. As always I stand to be corrected.

TBH Peach mate at 60K your car is very low mileage. Wouldn't have thought turbo seals will be that bad by now. What I want to know is how you get round your temp sensors in the CAT on your import. Do it - you know you want to.

:xxx: No Cat They poo in your garden !!! :dance: :dance: :dance:

i recently bought some de cat pipes from luke at the Z-centre although these dont have the cats they have small silencers on the pipes so still retain a bit of back pressure and i havnt had a problem with the turbo seals and i seem to have developed a very heavy right foot since buying this car if you get my drift :x: :cool:

:D De-cat PUSSY..........:dance::dance:

Had major probs with my temp sensors in the cats a few months back which kept chucking my zed into limp mode. Got the cats taken out (mine's a 1990 jap import, SWB, Non-Turbo) and to be honest she seems to run sweeter than ever. The sensors are tied up out of the way and not in the pipes (i believe) :D

I,m decatting my Z as soon as the pipes arrive from Luke, due anyday now cant wait to throw those suckers in the bin!!

The probes that screw into the cats are only for the cat temp warning lights and have no effect on the ECU at all.

Just push them up into the car and stuff a grommet in the hole.

:cool:
