Wanna laugh?

Okay the Auto or Manual debatre may rage on but have you bought your 300 like me?

I bought £5.5K of 300 on the basis of 3 photos and and couple of emails. (the photos being the Jap auction).

I had looked at many UK cars and they were a pile of S**e.

I ended up with a Jap car with 55,000 on the clock and an unknown history.

Well 6,000 miles later I'm still quite happy, love the speed, nearly put myself in the ditch once and am still unsure about the colour - Bright Red!

Do I sell it or do I keep it?

Post your stories about how you bought your 300!

Alternatively tell me why I should keep the money pit!

I was looking at a BMW 325i and the beast was parked next to it. Took for a test drive and fell in love. Was up for 7K but managed to get 200 squids knocked off including clifford and kenwood stuff.

No jap history but uk owner had regular servicing.

Purchased that day and have never looked back smile.gif

Had wanted one for ages and finally decided to get on with it. Did quite a lot of research and finally found what I wanted, a manual yellow N reg for sale at £24K near Stonehenge, saw it, left a deposit, then changed my mind when it turned out it was actually a late registered '89. Lots more searching and finally found a silver manual at an importers in Worthing. Called up only to find the advert was out of date and it had sold (probably someone here). Anyway, I'm told that a couple of days previously they'd just received a blue auto and he talked me into going to see it. Drove it, loved it, still have it.

Well boyz - I think I got a good deal even though mine is quite high mileage. Mines a J plate, bought privately for £5100 with a grands worth of private plate on it. Even though one of my turbs is weeping oil, I could have paid £7k on a H and with less mileage and still had the same prob.

Everything works, SO FAR!

I'm a happy customer.

bought mine 1992, seems quite a long time ago-oh, how the time goes- good song that

I'VE OFTEN WONDERED, DID ANYBODY EVER BUY A NEW ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

mine was originally a demonstrator.

Hunted high and low for a manual... couldnt find anything but autos (not a man/auto pre-cursor, genuinely wanted manual because have children and cannot risk unexpected oversteer)

Bought UKTT manual 75k '90. Paid 4.5k. Fooked Knock Sensor/AirCon/Turbo Seals/HICAS etc. Got Refund.

Looked some more. And some more. Lots more.

Chris Fozzy advertised the batmobile ( www.300zx.co.uk/rides/senna ) at hmmm around 10k-ish.

Asked bank for an extension on my extension of an extendd overdraft.

Talked with Chris (forum member).

Agreed to buy without viewing.

Paid £8250 to Chris and drove home.

Other than my beautiful family and friends I have never loved anything more.

:)

24K!..How long ago was that?...you would expect a 1999 last of the line car for that sort of money now!

JEZ wink.gif

Bought mine Nov 98 for 12k(just call me m.u.g), before the jap import thing kicked off! smile.gif

Back in those days you could tell Admiral that it was an jap import, they would ask if it was righthand drive and that was it! None of this adding £300 to your premium crap!

Insurance on the Z at 22=£1098

Insurance on the Z at 25=£1300! with more no claims!

I looked at loads of cars when deciding to buy a new one. For about 6 months I looking into

Golf GTI

Golf VR6

Sierra Cosworth

Rover 220 Coupé Turbo

Vauxhall Calibra Turbo

Audi Quattro

Mitsubishi Starion

It was when some one I knew bought a 200SX and my girlfriend asked what one looked like. So I put Autotrader on and showed her. Upto that time I have never really seen a 300ZX. So I looked on autotrader for the 300ZX, and up it popped. Looking at the prices I found that they where in my price range. But the insurance must be huge surely? After looking at Tesco.com and DirectLine.com it is high, but it was less than other cars I wanted. The Cossie was £400 dearer.

I looked on autotrader every week. One came up. It was cheaper than the rest due to the high milage and was close by so I could look.

Anyway, I did.

I fell in love with the car instantly. The engine sounded good, FULL history. It had been serviced at regular intervals since day 1. It used to be a company car.

Only problem was there was slight rust in the sills and the right kidney support on the drivers seat was warn. The sills have been fixed. The problem was a blocked pipe.

I got it for £4500 and the only trouble I have had it the speedo, which is soon to be fixed.

Looking back, I dont think that I would have bought that one. Dont get me wrong, I love my car, the engine is smooth and silent and the proof of the services helps, and has obviously kept my engine running so well.

I see some of the problems that some of you guys have and I have none of that. No oil leaks, no hesitation, not bad mileage, blistering pace, superb grip.

I dont know. The price of mine was good, but its just the high mileage that seems to make people frown when I tell them and puts doubt into my mind.

Over all I love my Z. And if I did sell it, it would be for a younger one or cos I need the money, either way I will be sad to see it go.

One passed me in Hemel Hempstead one day and I nearly drove the MR2 into the ditch staring at it then had to wait for it to pass me again before I could see what it was biggrin.gif. Then spent days trolling the Nissan website and seeing plenty of 100NXs and 200sxs and tried to convince myself that no, I wasn't going mad, it did say 300ZX on the back.

Anyway, didn't do anything about it until the MR2 started needing money throwing at it, then I decided to get another car while I had the choice, before needing one just to get to work.

Enlisted the help of a friend and we drove the length and breadth of the country looking for one in decent condition. Some 9 months later in September 1999 he was in London, saw this one sat in a dealership, went and had a recce and phoned me up in such a frenzy of excitement that I couldn't actually understand him for the first 3 minutes. biggrin.gif We drove down at the weekend, I looked her over, took her for a test drive, 125mph on the slip road coming onto the M25 (oops, these things accelerate! biggrin.gif).

30 minutes later I was back in the dealership and got them to put 4 new tyres on for me, included in the price and walked away happy.

Then picked her up very early one September morning, drove to work with the cheesiest grin on my face, walked into the office, the boys saw me, saw the keys and I have never seen them move so fast out to the carpark in my life biggrin.gif

Best one was, though, when the security guard happened to walk past my machine where I had the 300zx from supercars.net as my wallpaper. Sarky comment - "oh that your car is it?" "Yes." "Really?" (Highly dubious tone) "Yes - it's in the car park mwhahahahahahahaha!" biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Forgot to say - it's a UK spec biggrin.gif and yes, unfortunately also Aztec Red - I never wanted a red car, but ho well smile.gif

JEZ300Z,

That was 3.5 years ago, but the car initially looked like a 1995 that had done 14K miles, although the advert said 10K ... frown.gif

Of course that was back in the days when you had to make a real commitment to own one of these cars ! wink.gif When last sold new in the UK they were just about £36K !!!!

I personally didn't, but am only the second owner of mine. The person who had it before me was the Manager of Nissan UK, hence why it was specced to the hilt, for the time. Have also got the full service history with it, including till receipts with his credit card number on! biggrin.gif How safe!? rolleyes.gif
