Hello everyone. As some of you already know, I bought a '94 UK Auto TT on Saturday. :hyper: :hyper: I've got some questions which I'll put here and then do a search on all the subjects. But if you have any quick fix answers, they'll be greatly appreciated, ie. 'Its supposed to be like that!' :slap:

1. Headlights are tonk

2. Filling up is painfully slow. ( V regular Shell customer already LOL )

3. Climate Control is possesed!

4. Every time I turn the ignition off EVERYTHING turns off and rests. Radio doesnt seem to be wired to the battery directy. Loses all the stored settings, v. annoying!

More seriously...

There is a slight knocking coming from the heads at idle. When I increase the revs it goes away. Could it be the oil in the hydraulic lifters????

At idle the exhaust gasses coming from the right side exhaust feel smooth and constant. However, from the left side it feels like its puffing. Decompression problems???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Andrew

I've not found the right Zed myself yet, but I might be able to help....

1. HID kit (http://www.300-zx.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=101&osCsid=aa22227bd2e8f8b6c197480287af48a0), brighter bulbs or there is this : (http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=26235&highlight=headlights)

2. My old GT4 used to do this, pain in the arse as it cuts out every 2 seconds. Could possibly replace the nozzle pipe area on Fuel tank entrance.

4. is it an aftermarket radio. Fitter has just wired it up incorrectly. There shold be two Positive power lines coming from the stereo...one wires to ignition, the other is hardwired to battery.

May be worth visiting one of the Zed specialists for a general checkup.

1. Yes they are arent they :D They can be taken apart and the lenses cleaned up which is supposed to help, but is quite a lengthy job. A HID set up can be fitted but this is expensive - Chris@GetGReddy does them in his trader forum.

2. Turn the nozzle handle to around 1 o'clock, this is a common think although contorting your arm in view of everyone seems strange it does work. Better than click click click hehe ;)

3. THere probably isnt anything wrong, it can be confusing, a search will be useful. Series 2 aircon has extra features I think?

4. The power feed for the radio has been wired in wrong. Ign instead of constant 12V. In the FAQ section theres a post detailing how to test which wire is which. Removing the steroe is easy, just a few screws to remove the trim and get access to the stereo bracket.

5,6. Dunno :p Probably more complicated :( Could get a compression test and ConZult check done for starters.

Hope that helps, good luck

Pete

Thanks!

Gonna do that diagnostic thingy and look for a Zed specialist this weekend. It is an after market radio so it most probably is just wired incorrectly. Oh yeah, the clock also resets itself...?

The clock...

...yeah, they do that. A new one is expensive!

There's someone one here who can sometimes fix them... have a search through old posts.

Is your idle bob on 750rpm? Is it auto or manual?

1) This might help - Headlight Thread

2) Totally agree with Pete Shrimp, as mines the same as well :D

3) Could be the Air-Con controll unit?????

4) Have a look at this, it's diagramm that I did when I removed my Pioneer head unit and wired in an ISO connector, found it very usefull remembering where everything goes.

5 & 6) Sorry, not that good with that sort of thing.

And the clock, have a word with AndyP, as I beleive he has a 100% record with sorting these, mine included :D

Thanks for that, Zevans and Daves_new_ZX

Gonna try and sort out the radio tonite and I'll take note of the idle speed. Oh yeah, is that 750rpm when it hot? BTW it an auto.

Cheers

Yeah, that's when it's hot with A/C off, in 'N'. It'll climb a bit with A/C on (to drive the compressor) or in 'D' (presumably to drive line pressure...)

Is it really a knocking or is it more of a ticky rattle?

Everybody's Z seems to pulse slightly on one side... never worked out why!

Do you know what oil is in it and when it was changed? If not might be worth a change. In fact, check all your levels including the tranny (dunno where the dipstick for that is, sorry)

Idle troubleshooting are on EF & EC page 43 onwards, plus a couple of good writeups on the web - try Google...

I'll have a look at the idle speed.

Oil was changed recently but when I get hold of some axle stands I'll do a change myself. Tranny??? Would that be the auto box or the rear diff?!

What do you mean by EF & EC ???

Noticed some leaky fuel pipes so I'm gonna fix that 2night

Thanks for your advice
