while chatting to duffman on msn he told me that you could gut out the centre silencers to make the standard zorst sound louder. Is this right and could ne1 tell me in laymans terms how to do it?

Featured Replies

Why bother gutting them. Just cut them out and weld a bit of pipe in

Paul

Done just that but clamped pipe inserts in instead of welding, does make it louder, plus seems to boost up a bit earlier. Jeff TT

do the test pipes eliminate them? Cos losing the cats and the silencer should be nice

A new Mongoose would eliminate (or replace) them, but the cat pipes are the front section, immediately after the turbos and before the X, H pipes (or whatever).

cant afford a new mongoose though, as u might be able to see im aiming at the cheapest possible solution to make it louder biggrin.gif

Won't getting rid of the middle cats give problems when it comes to MOT time and emissions?

  • Author

no, afaik u can remove em on a 91 without probs. They onyl have to do the cat test on 94+ I think. Even so my dads m8 has a garage which does the MOT's so im sure he would fiddle the emmisions somehow so it passes. (And no he never does dodgy MOT's, without the krypton printouts u cant pass the emissions).

All imports go through a 'non-cat' emissions test. UK cars need to be pre-mid '92 (I think), in order to remove the cats.
