Hello all,

Just bought an additional water temp gauge and was wondering how and where is the best place to fit the temp sender.? It came with a brass screw- in sender with two different size threads but I am unsure as to where this is to be fitted to get the most accurate temp readings?

If you have one fitted could you let me know where this has gone on yours or is it case I have to buy some special parts in order for me to use it.

Thanks guys.

Ant :D

you will need a adapter for the top water hose (water coming out of the engine to the radiator)

I thought this, but I have heard that I could just screw the sender into the rubber water pipe or isnt this safe?? Metal into rubber???

Cheers for the response Paul.

not really mate you want something like that sitting as accuratly as poss

temp sender with adaptor screws in so keeps it perfectly still thus giving better readings on gauge

i got a hardpipe kit and sent the sender of to smithy who welded the sender in to the hardpipe looks the nuts to

but if you get the adaptor from chris you could splice the adaptor in to your existing pipe thats it easy ;)

mine was drilled into the metal water pipe next to the existing temp sensor

Thanks all for your replies

Just searching and from the picture of the engine bay with numbers could I just piggy back the wires from my new temp guage into the existing temp sensor that the dash temp guage uses or will this not work??

Not trying to be cheap (well it would be nice) but I am looking for the simplist way of fitting my new guage but still get an accurate reading?

Thanks again.

you can do that but then your getting just as inacurate readings of a 12year old sender its not expensive to buy a water temp adaptor £25 which could help save your engine from going bang :)

i second it, just tap the metal pipe and be done, if you dont fancy doing it get a garage to do it for you.

Thanks again everyone.

Scoops I'll think i'll do it that way, sounds the easiest way thanks. :D

This will not work. It's not just a case of a 12 year old sensor. Each guage be it water or oil comes with it's own sensor due to the fact that it has been calibrated for that gauge. If you tapped into the existing wires, yes your gauge would work but you'd have to be very lucky for it to be acurate, unless of course gauge was calibrated exactly the same as the standard Nissan one.

I know mate sorry, I knew you said that earlier, what i meant can I take the old sender out and put the new sender in, as the shop I bought it from said take the old one out and screw the new one in its place thats why it has two thread sizes on the new sender as cars generally only use one of the two sizes but hey this is a 300 so nothings simple!!

Looks like I'll be giving you a call in the week so I can use your tools to tap in to the pipe if thats ok mate? :duffer: :duffer: :duffer:

Cheers

Is that to the left of the existing one? Is the casting nice and thick or do you have to build it up or anything?

yep IIRC it was left of the original one, check how long your probe is though first (OOO-EEERRRRR MISSUS) as you may have to weld a nut onto it to maybe give yourself some clearance
