this morning on the way in to work my beast decided to pour smoke into the car at which point i shat myself. i pulled over and whipped the bonnet open to have a look and couldnt see any smoke anywhere so off i went again sure enough more smoke although no burning smell it stopped but i am no way gonna leave it at that any thoughts peeps air con perhaps

was it steam or smoke ?

no smell at all thats why i thought it may have been aircon related when i put the aircon on it went away do they have a heater matrix as its aircon

 

there is a heater matrix and an aircon matrix.

 

if the heater matrix had gone and you had steam, then the windows would have misted up.

 

If the aircon matrix had gone then you would have had a load of freon in the car.

I don't know if you can see or smell that, to be honest, but it would have got cold real quick for a while :)

 

Does the aircon work now ? Have you tried it ?

 

yep the aitcon still works. just been out in it again and it did the same thing it's defo coming from the passenger side my mate shit himself i'm gonna go down at dinner and take the panel off under the carpet and see if i can see anything

 

the glovebox is easy to take out as well, and makes it a lot easier to see in there, especially to see the heater boxes.

 

there is just one screw on the right hand side of the glovebox, on the inside, and then two at the bottom where it hinges. then just twist it out.

 

 

 

it has to be a water based problem i now have a leak arond that area.aarrrgggggggggghhhhhhhh i've only just had a brand new rad put in as well i dread to think how much an air con or heater matrix is lets just hope its a new hose thats needed

 

heater matrix is about 150 from dealer, but is likely to be special order.

 

not sure about aircon matrix.

 

is water clear or dirty/coloured ?

 

I thought i had coolant leak (matrix burst) when actaully i had restricted aircon drain pipe. (This is small black pipe that goes through bulkhead above ECU.)

 

If this is not pushed out through bulkhead, then it will leak inside car.

If it is blocked, then it will cause aircon system to fill up with water, then overflow into fan and heater. (what i had)

 

 

 

this could be the same thing as it's intermitant and i think there is anti freeze in with as well i hope it's just the pipe

 

tooly thats what happened to me and now ,y car sits imobile wiht no compression in cylinder 1 lol.

no seriously i have heard of that happening on the ttnet.

it could be a pipe behind the manifold that has worn and cracked (in not to sure which pipe its is,) but apparently the car gets filled with smoke, just needs replacing.

Thats what happened to me, what I thought was smoke coming out from under the centre console and passenger foot well. Then all of a sudden loads of water poured in to the passenger foot well. I put some plain white paper down or you can use white bog roll/kitchen paper. It will show up blue if it's your antifreeze. My heater matrix had burst. The whole of the dash has to come out, it's a real SOB. I hope for your wallet that it's something simpler.

 

If it is the matrix, when you get it all back together be sure to continually check and add water to the cooling system, I had an air lock in the matrix that was very hard to get rid of.

for what it's costing me they had better make sure that they get rid of any airlock b4 i get it back after taking my pants down and rogering me if it goes wrong i'll take great pleasure in sueing them for plenty money. its pays to work for britains third largest law firm sometimes lol
