Help! my Z is rusting

I need some advice on the best way to go with this.

I have a UK manual TT and have just been informed by my local garage that the seals on the underside of the car are rusted through.

They have suggested that its more of a restoration job than a couple of panels, the hold underside of the car needs to be re-done.

Has anyone had this problem? Should I cut my losses and buy another zed or get the job done? will it ever be in tip top shape once old rusty has taken hold?

The engine is in tip top shape.

Any input is appreciated.

A helpless newbie.

I had a hole in both of my rear sills around 6 inches long from rust.

my body shop charged £140 to have both cut out, welded and resprayed,

he did say he should have charged double that at the end though, it really does depend on how severe your rust is however, but it is possible to replace the sills without undertaking serious restoration.

More than likely just the inned and outer sills need replacing. Contact MJP in the traders section as he sells replacements... Then just get them welded on...

I have a uk tt too I spent 3 weeks welding it, some bits dont look to bad at the start you could ahave a hole the size of a 50p but once you start scraping around it it becomes the size of a tennis ball! I ended up welding both rear arches, both rear seals, one front seal, both rear pannels where the bumper fixes on at the bottom and some bits of the floor pan. In most cases I guess it would'nt have been worth it but I had the facilitys to do it, so it did'nt cost me

Get the sills welded for what it's gonna cost don't sell or scrap the Z though...
