Is it alright to use 4* in a 300 which has got the cats removed or is super unleaded better.

Featured Replies

DON'T USE 4*.

Use Super U/L. Although you will be throwing money down the drain if the timing is set up to run standard 95 octane unleaded.

Just out of interest why cant you use 4* if you have no cats??

I believe LRP is a higher octane than standard unleaded.

I used normal unleaded with the standard car with no problems but now use super since fitting the JWT ecu.

I've converted mine to diesel!

The reason why you cannot use 4 star is because of the lead. The lead is there to coat the valves and they do the same thing to the lambda sensors.

If lead deposits get on the lambda sensors then they will give incorrect readings. The lead replacement in LRP is there to simulate the work of the lead in normal 4 star and will therefore have the same effect on the lambda sensors as 4 star would have done.

I've had normal unleaded for the past few years, but I'm just checking out super at the mo. I'm probably going back to normal unleaded to see the differece.

If your car is fairly stock you should have no problems with 95 unleaded, a problem being any sign of detination.

I've been told several times to stick to ESSO or SHELL type garages and to not use supermarket fuel. I thought it was just the additives that were different? Anyhow, someone said this yet again the other week.

What's peoples view on this one?

i use esso whenever i can, then shell, after that it's texaco/bp/fina in any order.

i just find that i get a few more mpg overall from esso.

i dont use supermarket fuel at all if i can help it, although the fuel crisis is another matter....

I've always used BP unleaded and now BP Cleaner Unleaded. BP put so-called detergents etc. in these fuels and I believe that they really work. My last car was a Renault Twingo, 1.2 litre engine, which never had any other fuel. I thrashed that car to over 110000 miles and the engine was still in perfect condition inside (dealer's comment!).

Tried super uleaded BP in my Z, but made no real difference other than cost more and perhaps got a couple of miles more per gallon.
