Loads of people say the 'advantage' of an NA is 'increased reliability' and less expense. I don't know how to test it out, apart from the fact that my car has just devoured another £400. Is an NA *really* more reliable than a TT???

Vote on things that have actually gone wrong rather than just an upgrade.

I've had slave cylinder, master cylinder, tyres, exhaust, and 2 minor prangs- probably about £2000!!!

Small water leak for me and an oil change. Would have cost much more if Jock hadn't been good enough to donate his services. Cheers bud :duffer:

only thing that i can remeber having to do (as a repair) in the last year is a starter motor just before Christmas. cost me about £140ish IIRC

This will be somewhat annecdotalI.

Surely the N/A has to be more reliable as there's less to go wrong, the drive train handles less power and there's less heat under the bonnet?

That said, I'm always 'bigging up' my N/A to boost its resale vale, so don't listen to me ;)

Had timing belt changed (without water pump replacement) - maintence

then changed water pump myself 3 months after :o - repair

oil change, fuel filter etc...... - maintence

not bad really

I know, it's not exactly scientific is it, and it doesn't take into account age/milage etc. So maybe it's totally useless, but might just be interesting. A little bit. Maybe.

just cos theres more parts on a car doesnt mean they will go wrong does it?? its gonna be more down to maintenence than just having more/less parts fitted.

whats gonna be more reliable, a well maintained TT or an abused N/A?? ;) (ps answer is my TT :D)

Leaky diff on my TT, maybe more power than the NA may be a point there. Brakes, and 2 lots of rear tyres, and new disks/pads. Definately power related those!

Otherwise bomb proof and fast as Feck.

last year on my TT

starter motor, water pump, about 160quid for a starter and 30quid labour (didn't fancy changing it in the snow) and a water pump which cost about 35quid,

Mine has been great with respect to wear and tear and replacing bits. Tyres, brakes, service bits, front top link, rear shocks, a couple of water hoses, couple of connectors replaced, quickly mounts up I guess but then I knew it wouldn't be cheap hehe

Not counting prangs of course lol

had a new engine fitted, did about 1000 miles in it and now the turbos are knackerd what a cruel world it is!!!

would be very intresting to have a poll on reliability with modded and unmodded zedz, maybee they dont take well to higher boost ect ???

Altenator Twice, Water pump, front brakes, injector and coil pack connectors, Intercooler and Clock:)

Thats it for the mo, but the engine is smoking rather badly at the min, so i'll soon be well over the £1000 mark........

4 tyres, rear shocks, prop shaft bearing, air-con switch cluster, stereo, rear speakers and I've only had it 3 months!

To follow...

Front speakers, vacuum piping, clock (CHUNK- out of interest, did you nab yours from someone here, or can you get OEM for not much cash from somewhere?)

Mark

Mark,

I bought one from a breaker, but if you get in contact with AndyZ he repairs em!!

I had my TT 3yrs in fairly standard form ie just induction exhaust and boost. All I ever did was service her every 4,000 miles and apart from tyres and brakes nothing went wrong for almost 90,000 miles.

However once things did go wrong I've spent a fortune, but when shes back and run in I expect to get another 70,000 out of her (well I'm praying so)

P.S. wheres the £20,000 + but most of it is because i wanted to upgrade her.

Methinks this graph won't mean much cos there are more TT voters voting thanm NA. You need to ignore the bar charts

Chris

Well, if enough people voted you could tell proportionately that TT drivers have higher bills!! Not knowing anything about statistics and representative samples I would guess that it is pretty meaningless :) only I suppose you could say there are more TT drivers on the forum, and a fair few have had quite expensive repair bills!!

It's a more definite result than I thought.

Confirming, as we suspected the N/A is the connoiseurs / tight wads* choice.

*delete as appropriate.

I have spent £240 purley on repairs ie things that have broken. Things like tyres oil changes are seperate.

Wrong!!!

If you do you maths it shows them to be about on par

ie NA

hardlyany thing = 40%

100-400 = 40%

400-1000 = 0%

over 1000 = 20%

TT

hardlyany thing = 9%

100-400 = 45%

400-1000 = 26%

over 1000 = 20%

Which proves without a doubt that the cost of having real power is about the same as having a prettendy Z :slap:

Well, darling, I just LOVE the colour of my nice red zed no matter WHAT speed it goes! Anyway, it matches my cravat. So no need to be a bitch about it.

Maybe the sample group isn't large enough.
