Hey Guys, I'm still looking for my first Zed but am comfused about why the many cars in Autotrader and this site arent selling?! Especially at those great prices! If I had the money I'd get one immediatly.

Is it cos its such an underated car and not many people know about them or are there hidden problems? I've always wanted one but I dont want to be dissapointed when I eventually get it. As they say, 'never meet your heros'.....

Cheers

Well, the lower prices of our great cars is disappointing. The crap ones unfortunately bring the good one's down too. As they get older, these supercar's components are showing wear, corrosion and malfunction. The differences between prime examples and dogs are becoming more so. But the prices aren't. Its a real shame. Look around, KNOW what to look out for and you will land a great bargain I'm sure. Walk away from all piles of sh1t, and any that don't run true.

know what you meen piesoup because its on there a while you think people have been to see it and no body wants to buy it so why bother looking because it must be crap.Well thats the felling i get but i know iam wrong but iam really paranoid about buying a money pit :( one good thing to do if your dead keen on a car and just about to buy it is get it HPI'd and go for the AA Gold version as it covers everything thats about £50 and have the inspection done aswell then you have a mechanic with some experience telling you whats right and wrong with the car which will cost you about £160 i think best to check though http://www.theaa.com hope thast helps put your mind a rest a bit :)

i ended up buying a money pit, but with lots of hard work and even more money shes now back from the dead and thats gotta be better than her going to the scrappie.

Yeah, I know what you guys mean. Being an Aircraft Tech and knowing what looks bad on a component (I sign to say helicopters are fit to fly) is all good, but like you say, I'll need a Zed expert  to tell me what to listen and feel for as this all comes with experience. Its a pity the heaps of 5hit bring the good ones down with them. Before I do buy my first zed, early next year I'll have a good read of this site but is there anything blatentlyh obvious I should look, listen, feel for.

Much appreciated

Andrew

it has 4 wheels and an engine, if not it could be a toyota

well you did ask for the obvious :p

TBH honest mate, I wouldnt buy a Z under about 5k but thats my opinion. I bought my for 5.5k and it had no tax no mot all bald tyres and a hosddy back end, BUT i knew the past five years history and knew the engine etc was mint, all the cars I have ever seen under 4k etc have been smokey or shoddy.

And as for all the nice cars which are 5k+ no one buys em but enthusiasts. I mean what average JOE is willing to spend 7k on a 13 year old car then be willing to pay for 8MPG and large on parts is things do go wrong and also heavy insurance?

They arnt, they rather stick to smaller engined newer turbo cars altho cars like the Z sup etc are in a class of their own!

I would stick around, do some reasearch ( dig up posts on the cars that are being sold perhaps) and get to know some people here. Then get someone with you to look at them.

IMHO 80% on autotrader for sub 5k are buckets, I have been to see so many with friends that have caught the Z bug and they were all shocking.

This is so true. Most of the good ones are snapped up early by enthusiasts - remember Scooby-Doo's UK spec manwell, red, Stroesek kit and 79K miles? went for over £6k within a week or 2.

Plus now that imported cars are everywhere, the world and his dog are bringing them in from Japan and they don't care what crap ther import anymore - anything to make a few quid.

Stick to enthusiast-maintained/owned cars (like those for sale here) or reputable importers, like Jap City (http://www.jap-city.co.uk) You'll pay more but get a good one

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I think the problem is with old cars that when there price drops to the point that there not worth keeping up to scratch people start to let them slip into the nail bracket :(

BTW steve-o they dont really do 8MPG do they

i get bout 30-40 miles out of a tenner around town, and thats drivin very conservativly

u lose bout 50p worth of petrol jus warming th bloody thing up!

not bad then really :) i dont drive like a Tw^t so shouldnt have any problems there.

Yeh I get about 30 miles to a tenner ATM round town. So thats roughly 13mpg I guess, but if you floor it a bit prepare for sub 10mpg. Another way to look at it is it costs usualy around 30-40p per mile on short journeys, still much cheaper than a taxi lol.

Long journeys at cruise is a lot better than most people would think.
