Does anyone know if the 300 has a switch to cut the engine out if it gets too hot?

I was driving along and had run out of coolant, the temperature guage went right up and the engine died and would not start for 20 mins.

I am trying to find out if the temperature and the cut out are connected?

It's good fun this "Z" ownership!!

Stu,

i'll look in my manual for you, and see if it has, but it seems to me that you are lucky it cut out, rather than let you carry on driving.....

and i thought it was only me that had these sort of things happen..... :)

It's a nightmare I've only had the car a few weeks and so far:

2 new tyres

Electric window not working

Smashed roof

Radiator leaking coolant

Misfire

Thermostat not working properly

And to top it off it's due for a service

How much punishment can one credit card take?

better to find out you have water problem now, and get anti freezed up and all, rather than risk a more serious problem when the cold weather gets here...

i had a recent heater radiator scare and was ready to take complete dash out, but found a blocked aircon pipe before too much had been removed....

there was a spate of these problem 6 months ago as well...

Depends on you credit card mate !!!

Is it definitely the rad thats leaking and not one of the hoses?

There is no cut-out that I know of if the engine overheats. Mine's overheated before with the temp guage going right of the scale....didn't cut out on me. Never did find the problem although its been fine ever sinse. Probably a temporary prob with the thermostat. You were lucky it cut out!

You've been lucky. I had mine 2 months and found out that it had a bent conrod!!!

I had coolant problems in august, firstly the radiator cap became weak and started leaking fluid out through the expansion tank, fixed that and then the seal went on the water pump. Two areas to check as well as the long bottom coolant hose.
