it has occured to me,are there any gearbox solenoids in engine bay?

It has just occured to me that all the truble i have been having,ie changeing a perfectly good PTU ect, that the problem only happend the day after i cleaned my engine bay.You see iam thinking becourse today i had my Z pluged in at Nissan, they said as well as the line pressure solenoid valve being one option, they also listed that there could also be a harness or connector problem which is alowing the solenoid circuit to remain open or shorted.

So the question i would like to know is there any solenoid CONNECTORS in the engine bay that i may have disturbed.I need to know this before i comence with any gear box spesialists(sorry cant spell)Thanks for thouse who have helpt so far.Chas

Chas,

You've got a whole engine bay wiring loom mate that is very sensitive to being disturbed at any of the plugs.

Also, underneath the wooden panel on the passenger side footwell is the ECU but also the gearbox controller aswell. It has been known in the past that if the plug that connects to the gearbox controller is done up too tight that can cause problems aswell.

Might be worth checking. Just check as many connectors as you can possibly find in the engine bay.

Line pressure solenoids etc etc are all in the gearbox..

FYI I have a dismantled auto box (one planetary drive is chipped), in which AFAIK the solenoids are OK.. if you need a valve body assy and can't afford a fully rebuilt one, drop me a line....

This bothers me mate, when you say valve body are you reffering to the solenoid valve? How much are they anyway?Becourse if the gearbox is to be droped its going to be expensive any way,but how much for a rebuilt vale?thants mate.chas

By valve body I mean the entire valve assembly, solenoids etc - it's essentially a "plate" bearing all this gumf that sits within the oil pan of the gearbox..

Simplistic, but you get the idea..

If you go for a full rebuild, anywhere between £800 and £1400 seems to be the norm..

If you do get it rebuilt, make sure it's somewhere *good* - try where Jeff reccommends, because you don't want to be doing this again in a hurry!

Manual is for men that like the feel of a bulbous knob every few minutes! biggrin.gif ....and can't reach the passenger seat...ROFL! biggrin.gif

I thought AUTO was the option given to people who couldnt handle all those pedals???

A real driver prefers a manual!!!
