How would a TT Z fair against an NSX?

My dream Japanese car would be a Honda NSX, but as they are too expensive, would a Twin Turbo 300ZX be a good alternative. How does it compare on performance?

On paper they are very similar.... only 0.1sec difference in 0-100, however I think an NSX would turn more heads, outlap a Z on a track and feel a little more special. NSX is one of the VERY few cars I'd take over my Z, and that was only if I didn't have to pay for it!

Oh, and Z's are a lot easier to modify.

Ben

Yeah, I remember a few car-magazines comments about the 300TT and other cars....

It was like (well a few years ago') the jap-ferrari where everything is double (like twin turbo and other things supposed to be double then other cars whatever that was)...

and they were also saying that the Z was maybe a fraction of a second faster than the NSX.. and that anyway the conclusion was why buy a NSX when for less you can get a Z....

In the end I do agree that the NSX is a very nice car and if I could affor it I would buy it without thinking twic... yes you got me here I do like the NSX smile.gif

well who doesn't...

maybe 10 years from now a 10years old NSX will be affordable as today a 10years old Z is... sort of smile.gif

Boyz boyz boyz!!!! Where is your loyalty?

Hello...Are we forgeting our younger brother...Mr Skyline R34.

I'd take a Skyline over a NSX...just!

theres an nsx on autotrader for £19k

that's quite a lot of car for the money. and I think i've only ever seen 1 on the road.

mind you - you hardly ever seen r34 skylines either.

either way - at the moment - z's seem to offer really good value for money (as in it's an awful lot of car for the money)...until they break ;o)

I see in this week's Autocar, that Honda are giving the NSX a cosmetic makeover, to give it a more rounded, modern look. The engine will stay the same 3.2L "280HP" as B4!

Shame Nissan couldn't have kept the 300ZX as their flagship model, and updated it over the years, like Honda. cool.gif

I hadn't seen an NSX for absolutely ages and then on the day that I was on the way back from buying my Z from Cardiff 2 weeks ago I saw a lovely silver one come past on the M5.

...did not give chase(Imagine the scene - happy owner of new ZX - has race with NSX - rolls it - unhappy owner of new ZX)....Besides had the targas off and was enjoying the sun. wink.gif

My mates got one and to be honest I prefer my Z. He had 2 Z's before the NSX and the reason he got rid of his second Z was cos things kept going wrong. The only thing is his NSX has spent probably even more time in and out of the garage and parts really aint cheap!!! Everything he buys is brand new cos you will never find any in breakers.

I agree the car is beatiful to look at but the driving position is pretty crap. The front windscreen seems massive and you feel like you're sitting really high up.

I wouldn't swap my Z for an NSX!!

well considering the 300z completely beats out the NSX in 0-60mph, and quarter mile times, if you're going for speed, it's not laying up, it's getting up smile.gif

3/6 better than the NSX on the review is'nt too bad considering you could get 2 or 3 300zx TT's for the price of a used NSX smile.gif

biggrin.gif LMFAO!!!

How can you honestly compare an NSX with a Z???

Totally different kettle of fish! Who said that anyway? Stupid fookin' saying! How often do you see a kettle full of fish??? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

FFS, Z is about 10K tops, even very early NSX's are fetching 20K...not even the same ball park!

Z is nice and fast, Honda NSX(lovely machine) is a proper Super Car.

BEHAVE! biggrin.gif

I remember a few years ago, that Ayrton Senna got stopped by plod on the M40 in his Auto NSX (which He preferred). The cheeky sods not only gave him a ticket, but asked for his autograph as well! biggrin.gif

Don't suppose they would have caught him off the motorway, on the twisty stuff though! cool.gif

KSZX nice charts m8

theres an nsx on autotrader for £19k

We get a lot of car for our money too. I bought my Z for £4500, and people who saw the car was suprised of what I got for my money.

Leather seats, Air Con., ABS, Powersteering, Curise Control, Electric Mirrors, Electric Seat, T-Tops, Alloy Wheels, superb engine (if you got one that works wink.gif ) all in the best looking body (Besides my girlfriend) Ive seen.

Stuart

Have you ever heard a NSX from about 5000rpm up? oh my god, I hate to say it, but the 300 sounds like a truck by comparison!

So I am the only guy here who can say he's raced an nsx???? Nice one biggrin.gif

Picture the scene - first day, picked my car up about 4 hours ago and taking one of mates for a spin wink.gif As we approached some lights an NSX cut across the front of me so decided to take chase. Anyway, he gets stuck at the next lights and I pulls up beside him - he just looked across, laughed at me and then laughs to the girl next to him. Are you ready for this????? then I shall carry on smile.gif As the lights change, we both floor it but he just starts disappearing backwards.... Got to 100mph and shat meself so backed off - he HAD to get past to prove a point but then at the next lights he hadn't learned..... Deja vu anybody??? Yep - fried him again biggrin.gif This time he didn't bother trying to get past. He probably got finished by the girl after that too biggrin.gif

Co to answer your question - get a Z biggrin.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

Stuart - that was my point...

the z is an unbelievable bargain when you consider what you get.

it's also largely undiscovered, which makes it all the more attractive.

hope it stays that way (relatively undiscovered that is) ;o)

DUFFMAN DUFFMAN HES OUR MAN IF HE CAN DO it ANYONE CAN biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

REZPECT TO THE SENNAMAN

Nice story - Ayrton Senna absolutely loved the Honda NSX, just a shame he wasn't driving for Mclaren Nissan wink.gif

Yup. And like all great drivers through history, he prefered an Auto gearbox (cue the auto vs manual war again).

Andy

Just in case no-one knew - Ayrton Senna had a BIG hand in the NSX development. Thats why he liked it. He did a lot of tests for Honda. Probly coz he was driving for Mclaren Honda at the time?

biggrin.gif AUTO biggrin.gif

Manuals are for kiddy fiddlers! biggrin.gif

He only preferred auto cause he was to rich to change gears manually biggrin.gif

I think the above performance figures are for the US(Acura) Auto NSX...not the better/faster 5/6 speed manual car! wink.gif

Although Ayrton Senna may have preferred autos, most road testers seem to like the manual box better!

Due to the arguments it causes I think there should be a ban on calling a Z an auto or manual.. We should refer to them as the big turbo and small turbo model.
