Just about to do my first oil change on my 300TT. The car is supposed to have only done 12K and seems to be genuine. Ive just bought some Morris multilife fully sythetic, 10W50, does this make for good 300 tt oil as nissan only recommend a semi? My main concern is that the rocker/sump gaskets may suddenly leak as a result of how thin the synthetic is. Are there any leak issues on the 300, as some of my other cars have developedf small leaks in these areas after using synthetic.

Any help would be great.

Hi SWB,

Plenty of threads on this one ;) (lots of "debate" too  )

Nissan may recommend a semi-synth (10w40), but that's the minimum one should use. Fully synth is a much better choice for a TT. Grade and brand is personal opinion/choice. See "Sticky" thread from Oilman.

Some of us use Castrol RS 10w60, but unless your ZX has high miles or is heavily modded I would say that's too thick (gives too much pressure, therefore stress on seals, and increases fuel consumption).

As your ZX has low mileage try 5w40 first I use this with no problems on my 73000 mile TT(Shell Helix Ultra very good and easily available). I have no leaks, noise and good oil pressure. It doesn't burn much either - I may add 1/4 litre after a couple of thousand hard driving miles but most of the time it doesn't need topping up.

0w40 Mobile 1 is probably too thin (My Supra didn't like it so I never put it in my ZX).

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

used to use mainly Mobil Super S which is a 10W40 semi synth. have now switched to Mobil Synt S 5W40 fully synthetic. (mainly cos thats what iv switched to at work! :D)

have also used Mobil 1 0W40 without problems. however as i replace my oil every 3-4000 miles its not worth the expense.

I've used the Morris 10w50 for a few years now and all is still well. Oilman reviewed the spec and reckoned it looked better than average.

I agree these engines can benefit from a good fully synthetic, the car comes with semisynth in them but this is to keep manufactoring cost down.

The 10w-60 is just a little too thick so the 10w-50 is ideal.

Next time give ma an e-mail for prices.

Cheers

Guy.
