So just when I think I've managed to fix my coolant leak, I try to get under the bonnet to check the coolant level again before going out for a run to test it properly and the bonnet release just pulls out with no resistance at all. :mad:

I've searched and it looks like the best thing to do is to see if the cable's broken under the dash or at the catch and hope it's under the dash. What's the easiest way to find that out? :confused:

At least I have a JWT air filter, so if I have to come up from underneath, I have a chance of sorting it.

It turned out that the cable hadn't snapped after all. At the catch end, the cable sheath is held in place in a groove in the catch mechanism. Mine had come out of there, so was able to move more freely than it should, which meant that the release cable could come all the way out without releasing the bonnet.

I put my hand around the back of the release cable handle and just really jiggled the rod about a bit, while trying to push the handle back in. Then I pulled the handle out again. I repeated that a few times and the bonnet just released enough for me to get my fingers under it and get it open.

I think it was caused by the bonnet catch needing adjusting as once I'd got it open and adjusted it all properly, greased it, etc, the bonnet was opening a lot more smoothly than it had before.

If that hadn't worked, I think I'd decided to sacrifice the headlight panel and get in that way. I think I noticed stevo was selling a red headlight panel the other day.

Pete i know that BEE GEE VINCE also had a red panel for sale at the swap meet a few weeks ago , just in case you need one bud :)
