davido140 Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Has anybody ever taken thier Zed to a track day? where did you go? I know the Zed isnt really that great on the bends but racing round a track (to me anyway) is more fun than blasting up a drag strip! (not that you wont see me down the pod when my car is finished!!!) I'd imagine I'll spend most of the day being made to look silly by Lotus Elise drivers etc. but I'm gonna give it a bash at some point. Quote

People were up for it in theory but as soon as dates and costs where produced, hardly any one signed up. Quote
davido140 Posted August 23, 2004 Author Posted August 23, 2004 I must admit I havent done much research on the subject but my understanding was that it's a lot cheaper to join in one of the "open" days a lot of tracks run, sure you will spend a lot of the day being overtaken by smartarses in porsches on the corners :) I'm gonna give it a go a bit later in the year, dont fancy caning the car in the summer (even though we've seen the best of it!) plus Im a glutton for punishment and a track day wouldnt be the same without spending £500 with chips away after spinning into the gravel!!! :slap: Quote
Guest chunk Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 I was looking at doing one at Mallory park on September 4th, but i changed my mind due to it was a 30 minuite sessions and IMO, i really dont think the Z would cope with a thrashing like that on such a small track........ ......Now if it was an airfield :) Quote

konrad Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Track days are well worth the money ! Donnington's a good place to start - quite a fast track and about as safe as they get (go for an evening session as you can still get several goes for a lot less dosh and the air's cooler! Oulton Park's more fun, slightly more tricky. Both good tracks for the Zed though. If you've had enough of your Zed though, and maybe your life, then Cadwell Park's an excellent place to end it all - really narrow circuit with overhanging trees in places and dogleg bends right next to armco barriers. Best leave that one to the Scoobies, IMHO ! Do a quick search on previous track day posts to get loads of tips on preparation, driving and cooling off etc. Make sure your Z's in top running condition and go enjoy ! konrad  Quote
Guest phil_m Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Check out http://www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk it is an ex GP circuit in northwilts. It is a very fast circuit with some high speed bends. The website doesn't give you much info but they will send you a guide if you drop them an email. They would do a private booking if you could sort it all out. Quote

Smithy Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Peter Duke from Duke video over here has track days about every 2 weeks through the summer period, all on an old airfield too :) only costs about 90 quid a day or 50 quid for half day sessions and as many runs as you like. Often get car clubs doing weekend stints over here for track running and run what yer brung days, all good fun and been down a few times now with the Zed, blew me tubs there 1st time around 3 years ago  smithy Quote
Guest andyduff Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 We organised one on here a few years back at kemble airfield. Was an awesome day out. You'd be pleasantly surprised at how well the Z keeps up with so called superior track cars too ;) Quote
bigalz Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 There was a few 300's at Castle Combe Japfest this year- they were out with the 260/280 boys and looked like they had a great time. Just wish I had the cash to get mine running sweet. Think it would fall apart fairly rapidly thrashing it round a track. So how well does the Auto Zed cope on tracks?? Anyone tried? Quote
Guest phil_m Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Baggins, is that North or South, I work in Malmesbury. I did the racing school last year. Those formula fords are pure class. 100+ with your ass 4" of the floor feels like 200+. I will never forget one guy. After the day had finished we were all exchanging macho banter about near spins and braking points. This chap says "what, you used the brakes?!?" We all look at each other real confused. He continues, "You know the in-car shots on TV, when they are going into the corner the engines is screaming as they go down through the gears." At this point a couple of us are sniggering. "Well thats because it is better to use the engine braking instead of the brakes." When we picked ourselves of the floor someone managed to get enough breath back to explain it to him. Quote
Fuggles Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 A couple of the guys from here have been to GTROC Track days and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quote
