Hi folks

 

I was on my way to stay with friends for the weekend in Sale, near Manchester, and after three quarters of the way the car went very strange. It would struggle to maintain power and increase speed. The car whilst in motion would started to chudder when I put my foot down the gas pedal. It doesn't make any difference whether I'm in overdrive mode or not.

 

After a while I would have to stop the car. When stopped, the car iddles erratically and eventually cuts out.

 

Dave C gave me a few possible causes and ways solve it but unfortunately it hasn't done the trick.

 

All I can be sure of at the moment is that the car starts having problems when the revs start jumping up and down regularly. As Dave has mentioned that it could be one of the harness or injector connectors I'm sure he is right.

 

However, could it be anything else? ECU, speed sensor, gearbox etc.

 

I will be heading back to Derby tomorrow evening so need to get it sorted, even though temporarily.

 

It took me an extra hour and a half to get to Sale yesterday with stopping with car, wiggling all connectors reachable and restarting again and repeat about 6 times. At least I managed go eventually get to my destination, :rolleyes:

 

Oh well.

you havn't got an apexi air filter thats got wet have you m8??

or any damp considering the rain we've had??

ive had a similar problem with my PTU connector mate. I'd been playing with the car (removing radiator, fitting BOVs etc.) and had managed to knock out the conenctor so it was barely plugged in - it gave the same symptoms as yours. At the front of the engine, a silver box tilted at 45 degrees, black plug coming out of the right-hand side. Worth a try. Best of luck.

First thing to do is to do a diagnostic on the ecu!

 

If you can get someone to do a conzult reading for you do it!

 

If the car won't rev past 2000rpm then it could be the afm.

Disconnect the battery and reconnect to reset ECU. I had exactly the same thing and that solved it.

No apexi fitted Billy- all standard.

 

I'll try unplugging and re-connecting the PTU and also disconnect the battery as well.

Well, I managed to get back to Derby without too much hassle...but the car is still NOT right. It judders at around 2,000rpm in overdrive. With overdrive off it seems to manage better but still NOT right neither.

 

Could this be the AFM, propshaft or knackered gearbox? Any ideas?

 

I'm going to have a busy week trying to diagnose the problem.

This may not be it but from my own experience this could be one or both or your O2 sensors going pearshaped. My driverside one started acting up and manifested the same symptoms (albeit not cutting out).

Well, I've just done an ECU diagnostic test and........code 55, hmmmmmm.

 

I checked the engine idle, noise etc and all seems normal. I then decided to take it for a spin and guess what, all seems normal there too [scratches head].

 

It must have be a loose connector which have sorted itself out with my shaking all visible connectors etc.

 

I hope it doesn't come back again.

Both O2 sensors have been replaced recently so must be something else.

 

Well at least all is well with the world again.
