Guest christopherdavi Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Help please Just recently my 91 Jap import has developed this strange noise. It sound like it could be a electric fan bearing grumble coming from the far right hand side of the cab, under the dashboard and behind the guages. It only starts after a few minutes, seems not connected to motor speed and is not affected by the fan settings. IS there anything mechanical there? It sounds like a loose or worn bearing, but isn't very loud or worrying. Ta Chris Davies   Quote
Trevz Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Not much help mate but my Alfa does this too, only from the passenger side. Mechanic reckons it's something to do with the heating system/air con. Quote
WillieO Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Are you sure it isnt the little fan for the aircon sensor in the section between the t tops. That often dries out and gets noisy. Quote
Guest christopherdavi Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Willie I don't know what this fan is or even where it is. More info if possible It's a good job I don't make my living as a mechanic!! Chris Quote
WillieO Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Chris Basically the gizmo on the roof- with the two map lights - it has a bit in it with slots for airflow. If you take it down - cant remember if its clips or screws - you can see the little fan. Clean away all the fluff and stuff and a tiny blob of 3 in 1 oil onto the bushes of the fan will normally shut it up. I think if its noisy it stops when you switch the aircon to off - obviously this fan stops too. It is there to waft cabin air across a temp sensor in order to tell the aircon how its doing! Mines made noises years ago but has been fine since I lubed it. Quote
