Guest Mooch Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 As you may have noticed, there are two excellent TTs for sale in the boards at the moment, one an auto and one a manual. I have an auto NA at the moment. I quite like the auto box, but must say I'm veering more towards getting a manual in my envisaged upgrade buy to a TT. Has anyone owned both Manual and Auto, and which is more fun ("fun" being one of my main criteria, to take the edge off going to work in the morning!). I understand Autos are quicker in pull-off, but which would be quicker over the quarter mile? Thanks, Mooch Quote
kirbz Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 this old chestnut again i thought it was sorted out ages ago Manual is the only way to go...just ask macca ;) Quote
Guest Cos Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 I'm willing to bet big money that Mr MOOCH has not done a search on this subject! Quote
vijay Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 drive them both, see which you prefer - simple :) Vijay Quote
Guest Mooch Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 I did do a search on this subject a while back, but I'm looking for the state of the art thinking on the subject since I'm now looking to buy. Quote
Guest aaronjb Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 It's like asking which is better - Mac or PC, Linux or Windows, Tia Carerre or Uma Thurman.. Anyway, where was I.. ah yes.. I'd agree with the 'drive both' statement - I owned an auto for a year and a half or so, and liked it - especially in traffic, ahh the ease, the laziness.. But I always hankered after a manual - so I swapped (in a mightily convolouted way, but anyway), and really liked it - much better for hooning in.. But whenever I was stuck in traffic? My god I missed the auto.. :) Really it does just come down to which you prefer - either gearbox can break, although an auto is probably a little more likely to die if not looked after well, but then you don't have a clutch to kill, so... Six of one, and half a dozen of the other :) Quote

Steve-o Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 yours isnt black its a dull sort of shit colour  (chants) Autos, Autos, Autos I love my auto, lazy, fast, easy and fun what else do you need>? Although, would be good if I could have manual and auto now that would be sweet. Before owning my Z I would have been one tracked and said all autos are shit, I hated every other I drove and never thought I would own one. Yet a friend of mine had an Auto Z, and after driving it a few times I loved it! and got one! Have all the manual owners actually driven an auto properly? or do they just asume its shit based on my previous biased opinion by not having driven an auto Z? Quote
davido140 Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 if only they still made that Shift at Will system.... sob... Any electronic geniuses on here want to have a go at building one??? Quote
Steve-o Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Yeh that looked good when I saw it, has timmy t got one? Anyone know why they stopped making them? did they fook up? I love the auto but must say, there are times when you do want a bit more control over the gear your in, that is something Japs are good for (quick where is the uk v jap thread!) I admit, they have the power and lock up modes dont they which IMHO is better gives you more control over the box. Other than that, 1st and 2nd gear are corkers hehe Quote
mrogers Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 pity changing from first to 2nd isnt a corker, well not on mine anyway Quote

Guest Mooch Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 OK, to cut to the chase: AndyZ's auto or Crazy Eddie's manual? Quote
Guest Sgt C Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 :D IMHO........ you need to find out what sort of drive you want to have... 1. Auto for lazy and cant be arsed driver....... :nelson: 2. Manwell for in ya face get out me way drive...... No!! To be serious, you need to drive both mate as suggested before, then you will see how both are different and make up your own mind which one you want...;) as we all have our own opinions :D :D Quote
