UK speck tyre pressure?

Hi,

for a UK speck car with standard wheels... and S03 tyres... what is the proper tyre pressure?...

THanks

Front 33 psi(not this BAR malarky!)

Rear 36 psi

Tim is right about the pressures however, I was advised to lower the rear pressure to 34psi to avoid gutting the centre bit of the tyres. Had problems with my previous set of tyres but my new S-O3's are wearing evenly now that I've dropped the pressure slightly.

Just my 2p worth!

Ah ok thanks I'll do maybe 33 and 35 smile.gif..

or something like that I guess....

Thanks you guys

I usually use 34/31 because it takes a little harshness out of the ride. Most important is to use a decent pressure gauge though. One of the nice digital ones. Harry do them for under a tenner.

If your tyres are wearing unevenly it's more likely to be down to alignment and tracking.

I had some 'specialist' look at mine and they said nothing was wrong. Took it to SE and within 5 mins Pete had worked out the problem and it's been perfect ever since.

That is why I got a on board tyre pressure thing. It calculates what the pressure should be at different temperatures. My rear tyres are down to 33psi in the morning when it is cold but when they are yp to 64°F (the temperature where the pressure should be set) All my tyres are bang on the correct pressure. Hehehehehe

what's that?... and what do you do you change the pressure during the day ?... manually? twice a day?

You will not believe the trauma I had on Wednesday night.

After work I went to the gym and did not finish till 8pm. Takes me about 40 minutes to get home but after 5 minutes in to my journey got a flat on drivers front.

Couldn't get jack under car so called RAC. Bloke came out after 40 minutes, put the shitty space saver on, dropped the car and that bastard was flat as well.

To make things worst, he pumped up the original and has been fine ever since. He over inflated it just incase it was loosing pressure so it would at least get me home.

He checked all the other tyres and said that they were all spot on. Went to Jet station next day and found that near side front was 22psi, near side rear was at 40psi and off side rear was 20 psi.

Whats goin on there? No wonder the cars been fishtailing like a bastard.

Is a small unit in my car which detects the pressure of your tyres and the temperature. As you know gases expand when they warm up, so as the tyre warms up the gas expands the pressure increases, like it should. After a long fast drive my rear temp goes upto about 110 deg F, and the pressure goes to about 42psi. The thing I have detects the pressure of all the tyres and displays them on a digital screen. Also detects them temp and calculates what the pressure should be when the tyres are hot.

Excellent gadget. Hoping to get one of those next time I change tyres.

Stu, I know you've probably mentioned this somewhere already but I can't be arsed to search(lazeeeee)...how does it work, where from and how much mate?

Right, Here I go.

There is a sensor in each tyre.

The digital display unit shows 4 bits of information

Actuall Pressure

This is the real pressure of the tyre shown in PSI. biggrin.gif

Temperature

This is the temperature of the tyre shown in °F. biggrin.gif

Required Pressure

This is what the pressure should be taking into account the temperature. As we all know that the pressure should increase with temperature. After a long drive my rear tyres reach about 110 °F and the pressure is about 42psi.

Status

This displays the difference in Actual Pressure and Required Pressure. So if you are driving and the status says -1 the highlighted tyre is 1psi below the recomemded pressure. But it does fluctuate +/- 1 psi. Its just the psi might be 37.6 so it displayes 38 and 38 is 1psi too high.

Right. You set in the options, values of alerts and warnings. You can set these for the status and the Required Pressure and only a warning for the Temperature

Example of an alert on status. If you set a status alert of 4, the tyre will be selected on the screen, the status will be displayed and the red light on the unit will light up if the status goes +4 or -4.

With the pressure alert if you select 30psi, if any of the tyres go 30psi or below the tyre will be highlighed on screen, the light will come on and the Acutal pressure will be displayed. If there is more than one trouble-some tyre, it will display one for a few seconds then change to another.

A warning is a more extreme number, like a you set the warning psi to 25 and it goes below. The same happens again, tyre displayed with the pressure, the light but it beeps, and will beep every ten mins until the problem is fixed. There is also a warning for the temperature with the same out come as above but the temp displayed.

The information from the tyres are send every minute. So if you sit there pumping up your tyres it wont change on the screen real time. The batteries in the wheel are designed to last 7 years and if information is sent every second, it will last a 1/60th as long.

The display plugs into the cig lighter.

Need anything else just ask.

P.S. If all this dont fit on one post I will be P&*sed off.

Nice one, but

where do I buy it, who can fit it and how much deos it cost?

Thanks smile.gif

Mine cost £140 inc. fitting from a place called Pemerton Tyres in Wigan. Vijay said that he got one £100 from Demon Tweeks for £100, but the dont include fitting.

Stuart

Where are the sensors on the wheels mounted??& how do they send the info to the control unit???

Jan..

The sensor is on the wheel inside the tyre. The data is sent via radio waves I believe
