Ok... got a bad damp/ sweet smell when I put the heat on, OR the Air Con - it seems to start after about a minute or so. Now, first thought is the heater matrix... but can't find any water anywhere, and rads full.

Seen a few previous threads on this, but seems odd that the smell only comes after a while - should be there all the time if matrix leaking?!?!

There's no obvious leaves stuck anywhere, but guess I'll have a proper look later.

Anything else that can cause it? It's definately a damp smell as well as a sweet smell (which to me seems like coolant, but it's not leaking!?!?).

Any thoughts guys/ gals

My one stunk like this about a week before it blew and there was water everywhere!

Dont know why it made the smell

This week just hets better!!

From my experience all aircons can smell a bit when first turned on.

I've got a theory on why it can smell bad though- as part of the air-cooling process the air loses its moisture. Depending on the design of the aircon, if it's on all the time then the moisture can build up and go a bit stagnant. You might also find that whenever you run the climate control with the aircon off everything immediately fogs up- the moisture is re-absorbed from where it collected and deposited on your windows.

If I'm using the aircon a lot, every week or so I run the climate control with the aircon off and the windows down to clear out any moisture that's built up, and I reckon if you do that regularly you won't get as many smells :)

Vat's wot I fink anyhoo.

I get a similar smell but only when I turn the aircon off, I always assumed it was the moisture being re-introduced to the air flow. Most older cars I've had with aircon seemed to do the same thing so I havent worried about it too much..

Hope you havent got to do the matrix, I hear its a PITA to do...

This sounds more promising (cos it wont cost a bomb) - I do tend to flick it on and off... always get too warm/ cold!!
