Has anyone tried the Champion RC7YCC4 alternative to the NGK platinum plugs or anything better?

Featured Replies

NOOOO, don't do it! Nor bosch.

I presume you have the TT?

NGK PFR5B-11C Standard

or PFR6B-11C (cooler for those running higher BHP)

Check previous posts, there has been many discussions about this.

Andy

I agree, NGK are the ones. Then length is vital and they all differ.

I thought the UK standard was PFR6B-11C, with the 5B being the US standard (or UK hot plugs). The cooler US plugs are PFR6B-11B, which are better for modifications as they are longer.

UK plugs are 5 hot, 6 normal, 7 cold, although the 7 plugs are not reccomended.

Jez,

PRF5B-11C (hot) is the standard plug for normal running according to a recent conversation with NGK UK & their web site) The 4th character denotes the heat range. 6 being 1 step cooler, 7 being 2 steps cooler. The 11b is not really a cooler plug than the 11c. US Nissan apparently commissioned NGK to provide a plug that would reduce the chance of detonation hence the 11b. The shroud length is slightly different. The 11b is not available in the UK as it fails our emmision regulations hence why we have the 11c. This was information I received from NGK UK although the person I spoke to could be wrong. They were under the impression that the UK and US 5b's were the same heat range?

After all that, I don't think you can go far wrong with the PFR6B-11C's unless you are running some serious BHP.

Has NE1 got the 6B-11B's from the US and compared them to our 11C's ?

The PFR6B-11B's are 2.5 mm longer than the PFR6B-11C and the PFR6B-11C's are 2 mm longer than the PFR6B-11

I used to work at Champion Spark Plugs and they dont actually do a plug for the 1990 300zx that is worth having - dont touch the 'CC' rating it a normal double copper type plug and no good for our cars...However - I presented them with the NGK equivalent and they then gave me (for free) 6 plugs that are an equivalent plug - I think its off a K series Rover - if anyone is interested I can give them the plug number. Been in over a year now and the run as well as the NGK's before it. My car is stock though - no mods.

Bilky can you give me that part number for those plugs please.

Cheers

Interesting...

I mention 6 as the standard as that's what Nissan installed in my car, the last time I paid for a Nissan service (Ouch!), also my UK handbook says 6 is Normal.

Anyhow I may be running on version PFR6B-11B2 soon, my name for manually increasing the gaps!

That could be right Jez. I'm going by what they told me. NGK also have a racing plug recommended for use on Z's running high HP (400+) Even more bloody expensive! It has a completely different product code. Not sure how well it would perform with road use though. Probably would foul quickly like the 7B's.

Don't you need to decrease the gaps?

PFR6B-11JSC (Jez special C's)

Yes Jez, decrease the gap.

I've just ordered the Denso Iridium plugs (DN-IK22 ~ PFR7B).

Check out their web site at www.denso.co.jp

You can also search the tt.net for a recent discussion

on the subject.

As those plugs can "hold" the spark better, there's

no need to decrease the gap on them.

They are ~$14 a piece.

Maybe something to consider?

Maciej

Actually, I don't know which way the gaps would need to go on my car. I would not be doing this myself!

Maciej,

Can you let me know how they perform when you have fitted them?

Andy

Sure thing Andy!

Just keep in mind that it will not be any scientific

report with a dyno-sheet. Just a feeling.

I will surely notice if I get some detonation or

misfires though.

Mike (San Francisco) at tt.net already had some good

results using them. Do a search over there.

Maciej

Has anyone tried or got hks recommended plugs if so are they any good?

Those are the same as Denso iridium plugs that

I mentioned above.

Wonder if that HKS spark amplifier is worth the cash?...

Maciej

I'd just like to point out that this is the most boring thread we've ever had !

Hairsy, leave Tooley's pills alone or at the very least reduce the dosage LOL!

ignore them m8 pills are ggoooooodddddd oh yeah.i had the iridium plugs put in on friday and they are the doggies danglies in fact they even seemed to cure a surging problem i had at about 2000 revs at 50 ish

Thats settled then. Iridium plugs it is. Where did you get them from bud? How many greenbacks?

Christ. I have to agree this is one testing chat and bt the way Tooley ( My porn vids mate!!!!).

I use HKS Iridium plugs Excellent.

Yep I have them in stock and yep we put them on Tooleys motor ( Thanks for the mention Tooley) 14-50 each + vat less 10% for Nico`s lads.

Cheers

Well Johnny:

In true 'put your money where your mouth is' style it all seems to have gone quiet.

Bit like the Club thing ;-)

/\/\ark

that does keep happening, i agree, but i have noticed that from day one Mark.

People stir up some interest in something or other, then it becomes an anti climax when it finally arrives.

What do you suggest to get stuff moving ? What do you think needs to be done ?

I s'pose I was just being a bit cheeky (or a bit of a tw*t ;-). It just amused me how everything does seem to go this way.

To be honest Im a bit of a sheep and not a leader so Im just as guilty as the rest on the apathy front. It would be nice to get the club goin - even if its just from the point of view of getting us all a really good club based insurance discount.

Magazines/articles we can do online.

Graphics & stuff - I know lots of designer type people (Nik - the lad who did the logos - being one of them) who would be willing to help.

Dont know what we need legally. Supose we all have to pay some sub. The money could be used for some nice tacky merchandising to be issued to each person when they join. Any money left over should go to yourself & Nico for the effort you guys put in keeping things going.

Thats my $0.02 worth

Mark,

sorry, i wasn't having a go, same as you weren't either.

I have so much work on my plate, that all the development plans i keep posting about for the site keep getting delayed, and delayed, and delayed...

but i still want to push this thing forward, but we need some more forceful people to do the offline work :) or people who work slightly less hours or have more free time than me...

insurance is a f*cker, as getting club deals on imports is the difficult bit, especially modified imports...

but the company Jez and I contacted are looking at doing it very soon, and they have already accepted 300zx.co.uk as a club.

T-shirts.... Warren has had a couple printed up as demos, of which i have one :) i will take some pics and post them.

Then it's just a case of getting interest/deposit/addresses/whatever.

personally, i'm not interested in getting any pay off out of it. The only financial requirement will be if i leave my present employer, then i lose the free hosting of my server.

Having my own server is much better than having to host the site on someone else's, believe me.

However, the upside to leaving would be that i could then commercialise the service, and

get some revenue coming in from it.

As an aside, how many of you know HTML or how to create web pages, whether by hand or by program ?

And how many know how to compress your pics into decent sizes ?

The version of the tools i have almost finished will allow file uploads and re-uploads etc, which would be to your own designs, rather than online editable pages, which is proving to be a bitch :(

Craig:

No worries.

I also have so little spare time I have to make an appointment to have a crap these days!

I work 4 a company that does marketing & web stuff for the automotive industry. We're currently buying in 4 new web servers to go with the two we already have. I cant say they'd let us use some space but I can ask if the occasion arises.

In about 3 to 6 months time I may have my own dedicated web server available and I'd let 300zx.co.uk be hosted on it FOC.

The idea bout givin the spare cash to yourself & nico was to circumvent any pettyness (?) with any bits of dosh left lying around.

thanks for the thought Mark.

How about we put subscriptions at £100pa, and i give you this exclusive list of benefits :-

access to the website from any internet capable pc of your choice

a free cd-rom with free internet access software, in case you don't have any

the opportunity to post messages onto an online bulletin board

this gives you the added benefit of problem solving, opinion gathering, organising meets, and general chit chat banter

your name will go onto an exclusive list of other 300zx owners in the uk, which will not be sold to obscure marketing agencies, but may be used for advertising of any product i come across that i can make a profit on

free t-shirt

Any takers ?

:D
