Has anyone owned a Z31? Are they any good, and what are they like now after more than 14 years? What are the differences between the Z31 and 32? I know maybe this is a question for the old Z club, but I just wondered if anyone had had one and moved on. Any original owner who went from the one to the other?

Though of buying a Z31 about 10 years ago.......

were good cars in their early days but a bit too lardy/american/medalion-man ish to cut it as a real sports GT like the Z32 managed to do.

Z32 engine was based on the Z31 but heavily improved to give better power & torque plus accomodate the twin tubbies - the Z31 had a single turbo.

Still nice cars if you can find a good one but I prefer the older 260/280Z

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I used to have a Z31 - an '89 NA Auto. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it - in the two years I had it, the only problems I had (aside from the relentless onslaught of the tin-worm) was a flat battery and a puncture.

Sure, it wasn't the quickest of cars, and the styling is terribly dated, but it had bags of personality. I had a Mk3 Supra Turbo at the same time (which I still have) which was quicker, handled better and looked slightly less dated, but I just liked the Z more!

I finally had to let it go as the war against the rot was lost and the only think keeping it together was the paint. I was totally gutted, but it wasn't long before I got my Z32! :)

Comparing to the Z32 - the Z32 is better in every way aside from economy, but then you don't go buying cars like this if that's a major worry.

I'll always have a soft spot for the Z31, but if I get another older model Z, it'll be a 240 for sure.

Oliver Reed, Ian Botham and Frank Bruno (who owned 2 Z32s as well) :D

There were 2 versions - the later one being called "face lift" and not looking too bad either. The early one was a bit 70's ish for my personal tastes.

And the original engine was a 3ltr straight six. Lots more info here http://www.zclub.net or why not come to the next Royal Oak meet and you'll probably see one!

Here's a (rather poor) pic of the old girl

I don't actually want one- and I do think if I was to be looking for an older car like that it would be a restored 260 or 280 rather than a z31, just think they look kind of cool in a really retro kind of way. Just wondered what the previous generation's performance was like.

I think the Z31 is very underated. I've had two, still have. I used a 1985 turbo for two years which had a superb engine in it still capable of 0-60 in under 7 secs and pull up to 145 mph making BMWs etc really pissed off. Unfortunely the body rusted away. The other is a 1989 manual na face lift model. No where like the performance but a very comfortable high speed cruiser.

Had an 1989 model myself. Absolutely loved it to bits. Not the fastest car on the road and as everyone else says it looks very 70`s, but it was quite a head turner. Although I`m not sure if that was because people liked it or were just going, " What the fook is he driving".

Girlfriend said at the time (and still does) that it suited me very well. I still don`t know if that was a p1ss take or not!!!

Anyway, I sold it to my brother and it took him 11 hours to get from Newcastle to London as it broke down on the way. I was popular that day!!!

Petey - what colour was your Z31? I used to see a black facelift model, like mine, fairly frequently around Gateshead / Newcastle and sometimes in Washington when I had mine.

Mujina. I saw a black Z31 a few time in the Newcatle/ Washington area as I got down that way a bit, but mine was a white n/a model. My uncle said it was a Jason King car.................whoever he is/was

Petey-- I bought my car from the Wembley area about two years or more ago and the lad who sold it to me said it had belonged to his brother and had come from the Newcastle area. It is also white in colour and had quite a lot spent on the brakes. It sounds like too much of a coincidence.

It is too much of a coincidence. Did the lad have big ears  and did the security on it amount to a dirty great padlock on the gears. If so it was mine. How is the old porn mobile? Is it still around or did it go to the scrapyard in the sky?
