Right i'm probs with system not working the volts to the rear battery is 9 which my amps require allot of juice as their 2500rms.

I'm assuming the rear batt is loosing charge as i only drive it weekends, the charge is getting lost between the two.

So what i'm going to do is fit a split charge relay these are my plans let me know if you think it will work.

The Relay goes inline of the for Gauge power as close to main batt as poss, it has two little other things on it to attached so i'm assuming one is earth and the other is to turn it on so what do you think about connecting it to the remote lead for the amps on the head unit, is this a constant power source when head unit is on?, this way it will charge only when the stereo is on which is as soon as i start her up. :)

Do you think this will solve my problem oh the secound batt is a yellow top optima so will all this put to much strain on the alternater will it cope.

Thanks All

I had a very big system in my previous car and gave up on split charging systems.

More hastle than they are worth IMO unless you want to run the system when the engine is not running and still have the main battery to get you home.

Seems to defeat the object of having 2 batteries for more power in the first place and with the engine off you have so much less power to the amps anyway.

I'd just connect them together permanently and keep the engine running, giving you about 14v for the amps to run more power and a much bigger battery reserve for the bass when it kicks in.

If you wire it to the stereo then you are only charging when the amps are on. If they are running then you won't be doing much charging!

I'd wire it to the ignition then when you need to get some charge back in the system it's doing it all the time, with just the rear battery powering the system when the engine is off.

By the way, when you drive with this kind of power being drawn from the alternator be prepared to see your MPG go through the floor!

The battery will help minimise the strain but the alternator will be working far harder so expect it to die sooner or later.

You can buy uprated alternators from ICE specialists but they are not cheap and make fuel consumption even worse.

But it will be nice and LOUD!

Chris What about having the direct link during the week while not driving.

My subs went quite then stopped working, traced everything back nothing wrong so i assume i was loosing charge as it was sittin during the week.

This is the reason i was going to fit one as i've already got direct.

What do you think?

I thought the alternators were pretty heavey duty on a Z. How big is your I.C.E system?

the alternator will be working far harder so expect it to die sooner or later.

I can relate to that.........

Good man thats what i like to hear, whats a car without a system.

Every time people look around the Z they comment what a fool i am for having the system in that car.

But they love really. ha

Split charge was piece of piss to fit, in the end i took the wire to turn it on and off straight to the remote lead on the head unit. As i only wanted it to charge when my stereo was on so then if needed i could turn it off to charge the front if ever needed.
