Guys,

A lad at work with a standard MR2 Turbo reckons that he can beat not onyl my car, 300zx tuned to high 300bhp's, but alos kick the arse of any s14 on a 1/4 mile strip.

He also reckons that a standard MR2 does the 1/4 mile in 13.5s......

How can this be, my 300zx standard has a quicker 0-60 and 0-100, and yet he claims his 1/4 mile time is better than most 300zx standard 1.4 times of about 14 seconds......

What do u guys think?

I am def goign to race him just to keep him quiet I think!!

Sorry for posting under the "general" MR2 user name here guys...

I have an MR2 tubby, and before that I had a GTO TT, I must say that the lesser weight of the MR2 and the closer gears was a refreshing change from the big 3l V6 TT of the GTO (I would imagine similar in some respects to the 300ZX)

I was coming back from the beach the other day and following a 300 up the A3, looked like a lovely car, and we were happily keeping up with each other on pull away at motorway speeds. I think they are pretty much as even as it comes in terms of power / weight under real world conditions.

I wish that I could run 13.6 in my pretty standard MR2, then I could finally beat my mates Astra at the pod ! A LOT is determined by the driver imho...

Has anyone taken their 300 around Castle Combe ? What was it like ?

Homebrew,

>>LOL, we all know that the 300zx is a much superior car than the MR poo.

Do we? Do care to prove it? I would bet money on the fact that my MR2 would hand your ZX’s excessively wide arse back to it on a plate. Fancy the challenge? My MR2 is on the stock turbo, stock internals, stock IC, stock ECU but I know I will make your tuned ZX look stupid off the line and all the way down the ¼ mile!

You really don’t even want to try me on the bendy stuff either as I will run rings around you as your barge wallows and rolls around the bends.

>>The poo has a little 4 pot engine thats no match for the 3L V6 in the zed.

That little 4 pot is a feisty little fecker which even on stock internals can take some serious tuning and abuse. The V6 fitted to your Z is a big lazy brute that struggles to accelerate with any urgency or vigour. I have seen ZX’s on the strip and the track and I could grow a beard in the time it takes them to accelerate though a gear and then change.

>>The 300zx has proven to be the superior car time and again on the track and 1/4 mile, and we all know it has a superior top speed

Top speed don’t make me laugh, so what you have an extra 5 mph on us. I mean what does that prove? When was the last time you ever did that speed? I would rather have a car that accelerates stupidly quickly to a top speed of 150mph than have one that chugs along but could at a push hit 160 odd. At the end of the day the car with the faster top speed will be left for dead until the car with the lower top speed max’s out.

Superior on the ¼ mile? Please list the 300ZX’s that took part in TOTB3. Was there any? No didn’t think so!

Handling wise, please! Something that big doesn’t do corners! Show me an accomplished 300zx race car and I will show you 10 accomplished Mr2 race cars!

fight fight fight fight :slap: :slap: :hyper: :hyper:

LOL, with your engine in the back I can hadly see how it would handle better! Them 911 have engine in back and look at how they handle, all that weight in the rear makes the back end jump out all over the place!

All the 10 second zeds are in the USA, Japan or Oz, the zed is a proven 10 sec monster. TOTB? Never heard of it till I was on this forum, it's not exactly a high profile event, no doubt there will be some zeds there next year if that makes you happy.

You make me laugh Mr. Mr2 man. The extra 5 mph top speed means that the zed has a better top speed than the mr2 thus beating it. The zed still holds the top speed in its class 260mph, held it for over 10 years now, Mr2 would not get even close to this.

Now go hame and stick your head back under the bed covers.

:)

Get rid of the dead weight in a SWB Z TT (aircon, Hicas, 140Kilo electric seats, blah blah) & a stock performance SWB would have the MR2 even on the twistys. Of course it all depends on the driver too. (SWB is actually shorter than a MR2 with a wider stance) On the American Z site beasts such as these consistantly destroy the Number 2. oops sorry meant Mister 2. ;) and I'd say that, class wise that is more even match.

In fact my aim is once I get my 2+2 Auto TT sorted out & some extra shekels in my pocket, my next project will be a SWB manwell :D

>>LOL, with your engine in the back I can hadly see how it would handle better!

Clearly you don’t know much about drive train layouts. News flash! The MR2 is mid-engined.

The mid-engine layout has been used for years and is normally the engine layout of choice for serious performance cars! Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini etc all use this layout for their cars.

When was the last time you saw a front engined F1 car? IIRC the really competitive group B rally cars were also mid-engined. Lancia 037 / Delta S4, Peugeot T16, Ford RS200.

All of those mid engined cars managed to corner and handle so why wouldn’t an Mr2?

Just because you lack the driver skill necessary to drive a mid engined car doesn’t me they don’t handle!

>>Them 911 have engine in back and look at how they handle, all that weight in the rear makes the back end jump out all over the place!

Have you driven a 911? Probably not if you had then you will know how well they do handle! The 911 is a very sorted chassis, it just has a bad reputation due to un informed wallys passing comment on something they don’t know about.

>>All the 10 second zeds are in the USA, Japan or Oz, the zed is a proven 10 sec monster.

10 seconds is that the best you can do? 10 second Mr2’s are 10 a penny in the Us and Japan. There are also Mr2’s that will do it even quicker! Did you know in Japan the Mr2 is relegated to the 4wd category? The mid engined layout is considered an unfair advantage over other RWD cars! Still even when the Mr2 is up against drag Evo’s and Skylines it’s still competitive!

In the US there are MR2’s in the low 11’s on the stock internals! The built ones are even faster!

In the next few months there will be a few MR2’s in the 11’s or lower! There is a handful of MR2’s running low 12’s on the stock engine, internals, ECU, IC etc!

>>TOTB? Never heard of it till I was on this forum, it's not exactly a high profile event,

Not exactly high profile? Do you have your head buried in the sand? It’s a massive event and the only event that put the fastest cars up against each other! What happens on that day dictates who is the fastest person in the UK effectively!

>>no doubt there will be some zeds there next year if that makes you happy.

If you cant break high 12’s or lower don’t even bother turning up!

>>You make me laugh Mr. Mr2 man. The extra 5 mph top speed means that the zed has a better top speed than the mr2 thus beating it.

So if you get your arse kicked all the way to 150mph for you to slowly claw your way past at 155 mph that’s a victory in your eyes? You’re a bit of a wally aren’t you! Top speed is a pointless argument, when was the last time you maxxed your car out? Never I bet!

>>The zed still holds the top speed in its class 260mph, held it for over 10 years now, Mr2 would not get even close to this.

But who cares? I mean who really cares? If that’s the only thing you can come up with then the Z looks pretty poor! Also 260mph – come one the car wouldn’t even be anything like the car you drive. When was the last time you saw a salt flat racer driving on the road?

>>Now go hame and stick your head back under the bed covers.

Ehh? Come on big man I challenged you, if your so confident of your cars performance surely you wont have any problem beating my MR2?

Oh for fooks sake, shut your gaping sphincter and piss off back to your own board you jumped up little hairdresser! :xxx: :xxx: You drive a rattly shakey nasty little shoe box, and should not be allowed to have an opinion.

>>Get rid of the dead weight in a SWB Z TT (aircon, Hicas, 140Kilo electric seats, blah blah) & a stock performance SWB would have the MR2 even on the twistys.

So according to mark to match us on the ¼ mile stock for stock the ZX needs drag radials to get off the line properly and according to you to match an Mr2 through the bends you need to gut the car. Lol

>>Oh for fooks sake, shut your gaping sphincter and piss off back to your own board you jumped up little hairdresser! You drive a rattly shakey nasty little shoe box, and should not be allowed to have an opinion

Can’t win an argument with reason so throw abuse instead; yup you sum up the typical ZX driver for sure!

Is that all you can come up with Mr. Mr2 man? Very poor arguement from you I think. Its all bolox from you as for as I have read. I suggest you buy a proper car with an engine in the front with at least 6 cylinders.

Get rid of the dead weight in a SWB Z TT (aircon, Hicas, 140Kilo electric seats, blah blah) & a stock performance SWB would have the MR2 even on the twistys.

whats all this about? well what if we did the same in our MR2's? think about it monkey boy! Its the "what if's" and "if we" again  :o

And as for top end speed dont be a fool! when was the last time you went flat out to your top speed? Probably never so its not much use in this context. We are talking accelleration.

And MR2's cant handle? ermmm that is what they are renowned for, their excellent handling ability.

Go play with your barge

Look mate, the MR2 is crap. If any of us wanted one here we could have afforded one anyway, and with the exception of AdamR (who we are trying to help through his mid-life crisis while he debates his sexuality) we chose the Z.

As far as arguing with you goes, I can't be bothered, and also there are quite a few pages to this thread already.

As far as abuse is concerned....... I PAID my subs here so I could do just that. So sod off and die! :p

nope not gut the car, just remove all the luxurious extras that come as standard as it's a GT & not meant for the drag or british b roads but with a little fettling will out perform the MR2 in both. Flexablity is the key word here. It can easily be either. wheres as drive 200 miles in a MR2 and then book a visit to the chiropracter.

And I said hammer the MR2 thru the bends, not match. Equal wieght, shorter length, wider stance & 3.0l TT = Buh Bye.

Hmm strange whenever I have encountered a MR2 Turbo in my s14a it was pretty well matched up to 80 mph (MR2 getting the jump at the kick off) then I said cheerio right up to 150+ where they bottled out on several occassions, so I might make the observation that all MR2 drivers are typically bottle bags. :p seeing as we're making general sweeping statements.

Well, I have done 177mph in my zed and it was still pulling! It was the ultimate buzz.

wheres as drive 200 miles in a MR2 and then book a visit to the chiropracter.

you obviously have never been in an MR2! Very spacious obviously for 2 people only! or didn't you know that it was a 2 seater?

dont compare or think of it in the context of an elise or a VX because quite frankly its not.

Ace........ Paid subs = insult everyone!!!!!!!!! :D

Yup, been in one, driven it, hated it. It was one of the ones that looks like a wanna-be Ferrari, as opposed to the older ones which look like they wanna-be an old Fiat X-19

Rock hard suspension, the whole cabin and all the fittings shake when you go over a bump. Creaks and squeeks everywhere. And if you think they are spaceous then you must a fuggin DWARF!!

Oh, and before you say it was a one off, the car belonged to my ex-girlfriend who bought it brand new. It was her second one. She was a bunny boiling psyko, and the car suited her just perfect! LOL!

Where did I say it wasn't a two seater u excrementory entrance to the alimentory canal?

And yes I have been in several MR2's and found them to be uncomfortable, rattley and cheap feeling. Never been in one a long distance & quite frankly I wouldn't like to be either.

You're quite obviously just here to flame and are suffering from some sort of inferiority complex. As you can't seem to make any kind of legible statement or refrain from making offensive statements.

300ZX>MR2 end of.

As I said when I met MR2s in my s14a you were all piss easy. I pissed all over them on the A roads. Where I do my driving. I generally don't drive along country lanes so maybe it would have been a different story there.

That's in a heavier 4 seater 2.0l T. Mid range you're shat on. Simple. After the mid range you might be able to reach 150, but MR2s owners seem to start peeing themselves after 130. and by that time ur a spec in the mirror.

nah im 6'2", and theres plenty of room. Yes the suspension is very firm but thats the whole point. And in all the MR2's ive been in, rarely have I heard a squeek or rattle from the interior fittings so I honestly can't comment on that particular car you were in.

now someone told me once what MR stood for it was Massive....(blank)....cant recall

Ace........ Paid subs = insult everyone!!!!!!!!! :D

Oh no, someone let Adam out of the box! ;)

MR2.....6'2" and you can fit!!?!?!? What are you, a pipe cleaner!!?! Well, I bet you're used to cleaning 'pipe' anyway!!

Im not here to flam at all, just giving and trying to explain about the MR2 being the greater of the two cars!.

And we are not on about your s14a  are we? MR2>300zx.

Time Gentlemen Please!! ;)

Mark only started this thread as he THOUGHT I was talking complete poo about the acceleration and 1/4 speed of an MR2. As (thanks to lots of people & their vids;) ) we've seen -as much as many a hairdresser joke may be thrown at it the MR2 T. IS a very fast car and holds its own well against bigger more (allegedly Manly) cars like the 300, which I happen to think are a very nice car but a very different kind of car.

I hope that 300 owners have perhaps changed their views on our "little car" and if not well the evidence is their and there’s nothing more us 2 owners can do but possibly arrange a organised Santa pod trip - any 300 Admins interested should put a post up on the htttp://www.imoc.co.uk and we can all settle this once and for all on the black stuff :D -as I for one would be more than happy to help prove the MR-POO to you all :)

I hope I've managed to appease some nerves (lets not forget this is a 300 board) but thanks to the '2 drivers for their input and strong advice :)

Cheers all, Gareth

- Time Admins ;) ??

After that last party with you, jock, hermie and ryan I thought I needed to give my a$$ a rest..............

Sorry mate, you said you liked it rough
