I need to remove the clutch vacuum tank shown in the link

so that i can stick a vent on the front wing but when i tried removing it the clutch went reaaly hard and the car started ideling all funny!

Can i just block the hose that leads to the tank and will this just solve the problem and wat will i use or is there a smaller tank that i could use possibly a quarter of the size!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

We have fitted one vent on the passenger side shown below but the drivers side is creating problems due to this tank!

You can bypass the tank(s) altogether but I wouldn't recommend it. Maybe Mark will post up with what he did.

You can block it off after the smaller tank that sits under the brake master cylinder or block both off completely.

I don't have any tanks on mine.

Maybe he does but I tried it without and it made driving the car very strange. If you blip the throttle, on changing down for instance, then the clutch pedal kicks back at you, which makes catching the correct biting point a bit of a lottery.

I know what you mean, it pushes back at you and you can feel the pulses as the engine fires.

There is normally a one way valve between the booster and the tanks and if you connect it between booster and balance bar the problem goes away ;)

Yeah, I'm pretty certain I had that valve in place, but still had the problem. Tested the valve and it wasn't faulty, so I put the tanks in - problem goes away. Nissan must have had a good reason for the design ...

Well the problem is i actually did remove it but when i did and i started the car the clutch became extremly heavy and the car started to idle a bit funny and it did not sound right! As soon as i came across the connecting hose and put my finger over it the car and clutch went back to normal so i decided to fit it back in!

So if i do remove it, how will i go about it as i cant just remove the tank so thats what i need to find out!

Cheers Anyway but anymore clues or ideas will be good

did you cap the hose while the tank was off? you'll have a nice vaccum leak otherwise

All you need is the pipe from the booster with the one way valve and connect it straight to the balance bar, bypassing all the tanks.

Mine drives fine like this and MAC1 has driven it too and didn't have any complaints.

Yes I have and I can say it did drive without any problems.

And they build the cars so a trained monkey could drive them... which often makes it frustrating for a half-decent driver. (Like the drive-by-wire throttle in the Leon which filters sudden throttle movements even if you really meant to upset the car)

After the insurance approved repairers failed to replace mine afte a plonker crushed my wing, I was driving arroung for about 3 months without one. There don't seem to have been any adverse efffects at all.

They key is blocking off the line, since as alreay mentioned you get one hell of a vacuum leak and really crappy idle if you don't. Mine went up to about 1500 rpm :)

The only down side as far as I can see is that you will end up with a left leg several inched wider than the right after a few months. The clutch sure is heavy without the booster, although it did bring back memories of my old Mk 2 Golf GTI
