OK lets have a laugh ove rthis because if I dont im going to cry.

Here is a list of things that I have bought that have ended up costing me a shit load more for various reasons when there was no need to buy them in the forst place.

Buying Bling for the engine bay in the form of slam panels, hard pipes and rad pipes. £450 approx

Has cost me £1300 in new parts adn labor to replace, modify and repair because the bit I bought for the Bling ended up breaking things. ONTOP of the £450 for the Blung

Forget laughing about it. now its down on paper I am even more p**sed off

whats cost you?

Please let us know exactly what happened, my next project is engine bling and it would be cool to learn how things went pear shaped for you so I can try to avoid the same situation!!! :D thanks...

Unfortunately what he's failed to mention above is HOW the other parts have broke whilst trying to fit items possibly INCORRECTLY.

At billing last week numerous "bling" parts were fitted there and then on the grass in minutes, i watched 1 guy fit an entire engine load of stuff, all of the above and more in an hour using nothing more than a screw driver and a multi racthet :p

So don't be put off by that post if yer a common sense sensible head on yer ;) do a search on the forum to double check.

smithy

I can imagine you tried to get the rubber hose off of the stock 14 year old plastic end capped radiator.

If it didn't break when you took it off I reckon it probably broke when you over tightened the jubalie clip while putting the new bling one on :(. Common problem I'm affraid.

Did you upgrade the rad and now have metal end caps or did you get another plastic end capped stock one ?

There are lots of things like that that could happen with our cars.

cost of decat pipes £200 - cost of new turbo's when they start smoking becuase there is no longer any back pressure holding the warn seals in place £2k ish

Cost of WD40 and a tooth brush to clean the PTU, temp sensor, tps, cas, coil packs, injector connectors £4 - cost of replacing all the connectors as they crumple in your hands as you take them off £400

I got this philosophy, don't buy cheap or it will cost you dear!

Although your parts were fine, I've done similar things where I try and do a little something to make it better and something breaks! then you end up thinking oh **** why did I bother!

I have heard of a few peeps that have split the rad end cap by tightening to it, ****ing stupid that its plastic IMHO.

Smithy, might be worth putting a little paper slip in with the rad hoses saying not to over tighten to the plastic mate, not that it's your prob, but it will probably save people hastling you if it does!!

And deve, shit luck matey, how did it cost you that much $$ (if thats what happened)

Also when buying bits, you buy them on the cheap and think you save a buck, but it turns out crap, IMHO you always get what you pay for!

Worse thing that happened to me, was servicing someones ford, took the plugs out, but they were welded on, anyways after spraying shite on and freeing them, one of them snapped when taking it out, the plug spanner I had did not have the propper rubber in to hold it, when I lifted the socket out, the llug came up too, but then fell out of the socket and the broken part of the plug beat it to the engine.

Cost of replacing a spark plug in an onion 1.50 and about 2 mins labour, cost of dropping a part of a broken plug in the engine by using shitty tools priceless lmao, lucky it wasnt a engine like the Z it was only a 1.6, so thankfully, stripping it down only took about a day.

I thought I'd learnt me leason but when servicing me honda the other day, yet again I used a socket and not a propper plug one, used one of them maggots as I call it to get the plug out, lifted the plug up pulled it off and the magnet off the end came off the maggot and flew down to the hole where the plug used to be. I shat meself, thought the magnet was long gone in the engine. Luckily it was too big, when I shone a torch in, it was hanging not quite able to get through.

Needless to say I wont be using them anymore!!!

Ccost of decat pipes £200 - cost of new turbo's when they start smoking becuase there is no longer any back pressure holding the warn seals in place £2k ish

Cost of making a pigs ear of the job - Priceless... ;)

Ouch :D

Below the belt that mate :D

No what I failed to say smithy as you keep saying they where put on incorectly was that each pipe had to be CUT to fit because they where in fact too LONG PHYSICALY. I can post the pics if you want. But whatever way you want to put it, A 5" gap does not accomodate a 6" peice of metal tubing does it.

And you cant move either the engine further back or the rad further forward unless you want to cut the bulkhead of front of the car away.

I dint buy cheap, the rad was koyo £380, it wouldnt fit with the hardpipes, so they had to be modified which took a days labor, then i had to get the oil cooler fitted to the new rad, again another days labor. on top of that I had to hire a car for 2 days.

Cost of putting a not in the kit saying beware of the rad conection, Nothing, cost of telling me they are vunerable after the fact and that "everyone" knows this, yea priceless.

Dave,

It sounds to me that you have fitted a new rad that is one inch wider than the standard one. Well if you have chosen to fit an aftermarket rad, then that is your choice, and I'm sure that Smithy's pipe kit is designed for the standard rad.

So then, you have chosen for the extra work!!!! So in essence, whats your problem????? It was YOUR choice!!

Is this the best we can do for a friday afternoons entertainment? Lame, very lame.... :(

Am sorry fella, we're gonna go round round on this, you been supplied a hard pipe kit that has been supplied worldwide and am talking now in excess off 300 kits,no problems reported, same applies to the rad kit except 2 customers tried to fit it upside down, the headlight covers, 50 sets no problems once i explain what to do with the bonnet stay, the centre slam panel 150 sold worldwide only 4 reported having a problem, 2 i explained what to do and the other 2 made a slight mod themsleves as with this it's dependant on other factors on the car, so in short after offering to deal with you DIRECT from day one by phone/email have someone with more knoweledge help you out with fitting, am really miffed at this post !

The reply from davido140 is a prime example why i feel this way.

As i stated above i actually watched a father and son fit the very same products on a grass area at billing last week and many others did similar which kinda reinstalled my faith in my own products, notwithstanding that, these are CUSTOM and am happy that mistakes can happen, even in this case, i've taken into account your dyslexia you told me about and still open minded on this.

So until i can see in person what you have or have not done, ffs will you stop this crap cos am starting to lose patience and the offer of sorting your problem is getting les less and further more, if your problems turn out to be self inflicted i will be very upset at the concern imposed on my potential new customers.

Now leave it at that, you started publically once already, we really don't need it again.

Ouch :D

Below the belt that mate :D

I suppose that depends on who he was talking to  ;)

I had assumed it was "user error" not a prob with your kits, :D snapping plastic end caps off the rad etc. Just wanted some tips to avoid this kind of stuff being a bit of a clutz with a spanner I like to get fully prepared! Will be ordering hard pipes, fuel lines, and some other stuff too when the car comes back from the body shop!

Think I'll stay out of this one for now, looks like it may get messy.... :nelson:

:D :D :D

It's not going to get messy the cleaners are standing by ;)

Dev mate, I wasnt saying you bought cheap, you asked for examples of things that happened to other people and I told you i've bought cheap, and ended up paying dear for it in the long run?

If the post wasnt about things that have cost and gone wrong like it said, then why bother asking for ppls input if your gonna moan at them?

It seems to me you didnt post up asking what had ended up costing time and money but just to have a go at smithy!

If you've got issues take it up with the man not drag us into an argument, if there does turn out to be an issue thats for you to take up with the moderators and not on the public forum, unless of course its warning us of rip off merchants or scammers, of which Smithy isnt.

I have loads of Smithy products on my Z..........

I have most of Smithy's stuff on my car and it's all fitted perfectly in a few minutes.

The only thing I had a problem with was the top rad hose and that's because after ordering Smithy's kit, I bought a Howe rad which is thicker and has different size necks on it.

I had to spend quite a few hours getting it to fit/refilling the rad etc but that's to be expected when you fit none standard parts.

If I'd booked it into a garage to have it done I would have expected a very large bill for fitting a small shiney pipe
