Weird ariel problem

Up until today, my ariel only came up when I turned on the radio. Today it decided to go up as soon as I turned on the stereo, whether it was the tuner or not I had on. Has anyone got any idea what's changed? Why might it have started now, all of a sudden doing that?

Cheers

what the aeriel is supposed to go up, darn wonder why i could only get radio shite bristol lol.

Hi Rich

If the aerial is clean and smooth then you may need to replace the relay. It's a transparent white box (the size of a cigarette box) that lives just above the right wheel arch behind the boot trim.

Otherwise give it a clean with some wire wool and WD40, then "excercise" it by switching the radio on and off and helping it up and down by hand (oo er mrs :p ) until it works by itself.

They can be tempremental if not properly clean.

HTH

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Thanks. I'll give that a try. It seems to be going up and down by itself- never had a problem in that department ;). The problem I have I think is slightly different. Up until now the ariel has stayed retracted when I turned on the CD player and would only extend if I switched to tuner. Now, it comes out as soon as I switch on the CD or tuner- but goes up and down smoothly. Still something to do with the relay?

Have you got an AF button on your head unit? If AF is on, the aerial will pop up whenever the head unit is switched on. If AF is off it will only come up with the tuner. HTH (cant remember what AF stands for :p )

Disconnect it and buy one of the stick on ariels from Halfords that you stick up inside your windscreen behind your smoked sunscreen. They are discreet and work very well, I'm well happy with mine...

Get the System from A bmw mine has a box in the rear behind the left rear window trim. I have never tried this but the theory of it should be simple. plus you hav no visible arial.

Get it filled and removed you'll get much better performance, No drag and less weight LOL.

Na but really it would look much better got to a local scrappy.

You deffo can't beat not havin' an ariel, thay are such ugly things.
