you`ve started it now mate!

ooops i only asked

Nope they are not.............

And yes I drive an Auto.....I'd have either to be honest.....

I love an auto as I'm lazy and there is no lag in spool up between gear changes....it just keeps, going, and going and going.......!!!! :hyper:

:D

Very little difference in performance really. It's a good auto so you can't compare it like you would, say, a manual vs auto Mondeo.

I drove both versions and found performance similar. It is reckoned that whilst manuals are a couple of 10ths quicker to 60, the auto is quicker to 100 from rest. Just drive both and make up your mind......

As for reliability, early autos (1990) are reckoned to be less reliable. Also Jap-spec autos don't have the gearbox oil cooler that the UK cars have, hence they are known to get hot and fry. Easily cured by fitting the 'cooler, Jap cars aren't driven as hard or fast as we do here....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Just don`t ask about colours. :D

Good advice there, aftermarket oil cooler fitted. £110 for one and it'll save ££££ on a rebuild!! ;)

Matty.

Autos are soo nice, I hated autos, never owned one but drove a few and hated it. The Z is my first auto car, and I love it, never thought I would own an auto, but after driving it, well I fell in love.

Yes its lazy, yes I think its faster to 100 (only 1 change instead of two?), yes it has less tubby lag, and yes its just like playing a playstation game lol, plant the accelerator and hold on tight with both hands :D

Some people say you cant get as involved with the driving with an auto, whilst I agree you can change up down and choose the revs you want on an emanuel, the auto I would say is more of a concentrated drive, cause you plant it hold on with both hands, and just focus everything on where your going and cornering instead of fannying around up and down gears all the time, two hands on the wheel always better than one! (when racing of course).

One thing you will find, if you get in an auto and drive it fast, it will not seem as fast as someone who knows how to drive an auto Z, its weird. When I bought mine, I just couldnt make it go like my mate could, then I got used to it and you get a 'feel' for the kickdown and how to get it to change up or drag the gears out. Same thing happend with my friend, he got in mine planted it and just couldnt seem to get it to kick down and stuff. He was set on getting a manual, it took him a while to get a feel for my auto, then he loved it and bought an auto too.

However, one thing I do tend to hate on auto's it seems, if you are flooring it, and you are pulling much harded than the person in front and let off at high revs, when you go back on the gas after a few seconds, the torque converter seems to slip the power back in, where as on a manual its there. This I've experienced in my car, two others, and one of them has an SE fast road box on, so I guess its a common pain in the ass thing with autos.

Steve

P.S white is the best colour we all know it and the fastest lol

Yep agree with Steve-o - white paint seems to give the car another 20 bhp :D :D

The sports auto box in the Z is fun and, if youre not careful, will drop you down a gear while youre on a corner - suddenly giving you extra thrust and sliding your ass out 20 degrees (until you learn the shift points). The overdrive on/off button is fun too - with o/d switched off (therefore removing 4th gear) the accelerator pedal is far more pokey cos you're kept within a higher rev range in a lower gear - great for countrysides!!!.

Horses for courses but I would say, if you are wanting to upgrade the power much, go for manual as the auto boxes don't hold that much above stock power without frying themselves...

Reliability-wise, manuals need clutches (and very infrequently need new synchros), auto's need full rebuilds...

It really is 50/50 to be honest...

Manual more reliable, Ive gone through 4 auto boxes in 5 years

My manual box has never given problems

No difference in speed really

Auto seems to be a nicer drive though
