Noticed a very slight, but regular popping noise from the tail of the passenger side exhaust at idle (hot and cold). It's more evident when placing a hand over the exit pipe. The driver's side is fine, with a steady gas flow. Idle is smooth and car runs fine. It's an HKS exhaust, cats removed.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I had a very slight pop or "miss" a while ago noticable from one side of the exhaust and I'm sure from memory, replacing the injector or coilpack connectors cured it. I can't really emphasise enough how much of a worthwhile mod this is, along with your temp sensor and harness! Your Z will run better - 99 times out of a 100 I reckon.

Thanks James. Looked at the coilpack/injector connectors for condition/contact and they appear fine. Guess if they were a little suspect it would have an adverse effect on general running/idle. But I haven'e got these symptoms. I replaced the temp sensor a few months ago, together with the engine wiring loom last year. So I guess we can rule that out too. You're spot on about the connectors - replacing the loom made hell of a difference.

I have the same problem but popping comes from the drivers side  any ideas anyone?

another one in croydon,, wahoo,, the count rises, did you ever get this sorted ??im close by and may be able to help

IIRC popping would be unburnt fuel igniting in your cats/exhaust. Check/clean your connectors to your maf/PTU/Coilpacks/CAS and injectors.

Vijay

i would do that if i knew what the fook to do and what to disconnect!!

knowing me i would break something!!

i 2nd that, can some one put up some pics of an engine with some nice big primary school arrows pointing to the bits i need to clean? as mine has been running a bit crap the past few months!

This thread is a couple of years old, but poping could be an air leak in the exhaust or an ignition problem.
