Rears are 6 * 4 inch... weird size, but can get some decent stock replacements. I know you can fit 6*9s in if you do some work. Pioneer do a selection of 6*4's though. Can't remember what size the fronts are though.

You can get 6x9's in the front and rear, without too much hastle, but that might fall into your over the top catagory.

IMHO any speakers the original size sound rubish, you just cant get a balanced sound from them, I tried listening to loads before giving up and fitting 6x9's all round.

If you do want to fit 6x9's in the rear, you just take the old ones out, pop the covers, remove the speaker, then unbolt the metal mounting brackets underneath.

This gives you loads more room in the pods, just take a cutting tool, mark the size in the pod for a 6x9 then cut away, pop the 6x9's in with new covers and all and bobs your uncle.

I drilled direct into the plastic as it was plenty strong enough to hold them, then i just cut a ring out of insulation to stop the sound leaking where you screw it down tight (the same shape / size as the speaker surround so you cant see it).

Sounds mint, you can do similar in the front, take the door card out remove original speaker and grills, unbolt old metal speaker brackets on door, then cut a new one from MDF or something similar that will suit the magnet of a 6x9 but with mounting holes etc in same position (so it screws back on the door ok) then you can mount the 6x9's from the inside part of the door card nicely, and have nice new grills showing too instead of them old ones.

Nice one, thanks no 6x9 is fine. i'll try that at the weekend, thanks for your help.

I got a set of JBL 6x4 from Halfords for £50 and they sound good - way better than stock. I have JVC head unit running the rears through the stock amp and for a budget upgrade you can't go wrong....

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Agreed...standard is shi*e

Interesting that you can get 6 x 9 in....will have a go as am getting deafer as I get older...need to hear it afterall!

I put 7X5 Kenwoods in the back with only some screw holes re drilled and replaced the fronts with same 6" diameter but much more massive speakers - I mean the magnet just touches the dropped window. So you cannot fit bigger in the same mount place.

Sounds good and you can feel the bass.

Took out the rear amp as it wasnt being used anymore.

Stock front are round Hitachi 6" dia on my UK car anyway and 41mm deep. I think the Bose pods fit in the same mounts if thats what yours has. Still have the Hitachi ones on the floor in my study and the box for the new ones! I changed them for a drop in unit same diameter but 71mm deep from the mounting flange to the back of the magnets. This was the deepest you could go without jamming the window when its down.

The new speakers had titanium midrange and tweeter - apparently yanks call em whizzers! Magnet was a 20 oz thing. Took some piccys of the door inards and old and new speakers that I can put up if interested.

Please mate pic's would be nice.

Here goes hope this works

Also with the fronts I replaced the small dia speaker leads with decent section stuff. Getting it threaded thru the door to body shroud was fun.
