Featured Replies

I'm sure someone else will correct me if I'm wrong, but this should be checked for the BIMTA cert, on new imports (not sure when this came in)

hpi told me checks overseas wern't worth it...i.e. if its wrong you have to go to the originator (japan) and sue them...just one of the delights in importing your own motor i guess..

hi, this is a motor i bought from a garage that imported it a month before i bought it ! the damage is on the car ,but of course "it wasnt on it when you bought it " even thought it must have been in a really good smash, i bought it back to them within a month!

check your rights with your local trading standards...my understanding is if you buy private...cavet emptor...buyer beware....but if you buy from a dealer...they have responsibility for workmanship, faults, fit for purpose ect

cheers,im in the process of taking them to court.....ive had a expert check on this and the car is to dangerous to drive and it has been in a big smash.....*******s

buy from a reputable exporter, all the oens I know are 100% honest about the condition of all the cars for sale, and if it was been in an accident they would tell you on the info sheet

if you have bought through a japanese auction, or the trader you bought it from has there are a few things that protect you.

1stly to sell at the auction you need proof of ownership, and that Japanese proof not just turning up with a peice of paper saying its yours.

They then inspect the car and give it a grade, and its some inspection but as soon as the car finds its grade level the inspection stops. So a high grade will have gone through with a fine tooth combe. Lower grades will not have been that rigorous.

Acceident dammage, you can have the same as an HPI check done in japan, but as with over here you have to do it befor you buy the car realy, but you do have a 10 day return. buggered if its in a boat.

However there is a company that will do a check for you on your car in japan. need to do a search for exporters.

Did a check on mine and found out the car had been used in a robery and was impounded and sold by the police.

IF YOU COULD GET ME THIS COMPANYS DETAILS WHO WOULD DO A HPI CHECK I WOULD BE THANKFUL ,IVE TRIED LOOKING FOR EXPORTERS BUT I COME UP WITH NOTHING!!!!

will do.

mind you it was 3 years ago since i used them. Ill see if i have the credit card bill about

Nice One ,

nope. throuwn out bills from that far back. I found them on google. was just looking for the same as you.

Hi, Thanks For Your Help I Tried Bimta But They Can Only Tell Me If It Was Stolen Or A Total Write Off. I Read Up That Your Car Should Go Through A Sva Test And That Your Car Will Then Get A Grade 0-write Off 5-excelent. There Must Be A Way Of Finding If It Had A Sva Test ?????.........does Anybody Know Of A Company Who Imports Car From Japan Who Are In Rugby???????

depends what year/how old your car is to whether it had an sva test or not

ie over 10 years old when imported then it won't have had an sva, just mot and registration, if it has had an sva, then vosa will be able to tell you some things, but NOT if its been in a smash, they only check if its legal to go a british road, and conform to european standards

the only way you can properly check the history of an imported car, is by first having the deregistraion of the car from japan, so you then know which

area in japan dealt with it, so you need to start tracking the car back from

last keeper etc

PROBLEM IS THE LAST OWNER WAS THE GARAGE I BOUGHT IT FROM ,THEY IMPORTED IT ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE I BOUGHT IT.......I DIDNT GET ANY KIND OF IMPORT PAPERS OFF THEM AND NOW IM INDISPUTE WITH THEM THEY WILL NOT HELP .THATS WHY IM TRYING TO FIND OUT MYSELF BUT ITS NOT GOING WELL! IT IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD.THE REG IS

H802 POJ IF ANY ONE KONWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS CAR????????

...to my knowledge (I've a crash damaged Jap import - have had for 4 and a half years) the garage will have all of the paperwork from Japan indicating it's condition. It will definately describe it as crash damage repaired.

The SVA test is done in this country and is a kind of strick MOT. If there were ant faults they should have picked them up. Having said that when I bought mine, both front tie rod bushes were shot, disks were warped and the tyres were bald. If I'd have taken it for an MOT it would have failed.

The garage gave me 3 months warranty so they got it back. But not for the faults I've just mentioned. I did those so that I was confident that they were right. They got it back for a leaking main seal between engine and box.

I'd recommend (forgive me if I've not fully read your thread) that you get a list from your independent source and ask the garage to rectify the faults. If by not roadworthy you mean the whole car is bent (literally) then carry on with your action.

My car had had one side (drivers) taken out. It meant that it came with a full respray to a high condition, new windscreen, new shocks, new wheels, new underseal and was generally in great condition. Too good to be true for what was then a 10 year old car.

But 4+ years later and it's still great.

You have to remember, a car is sold for a reason. When you buy one, you need enough money to find and rectify the reason(s)...

Good luck

Jack

I DID SPEAK TO THE GARAGE THEY DIDNT WANT TO KNOW THEY SAID IT WASNT LIKE IT WHEN THEY SOLD IT , THE INNER WING HAS A 3-4 FOOT LONG TEAR IN IT WHICH GOES ACROSS THE SUSPENSION AND THE WELD AT THE TOP OF THE WING IS BODGED....I HAD A EXPERT COME AND ASSESS IT AND HE TELLS ME IT HAS BEEN A BIG SMASH AND THE WORK TO PUT IT RIGHT HAS BEEN DONE CRAP. THE GARAGE SAYS I MUST HAVE GONE OVER A SPEEP BUMP TO FAST????

Sounds like you need a written report from a respected source that describes the car as un-fit for purpose.

Mine had a new front wing, drivers door and rear wing - and sills. So prety hefty damage. Everything else was straight. And there's been no detrimental tyre wear... so it's basically ok.

Question is, how did you realise that there was something wrong. The inner wing is behind plastic and not readily accessible...

Ive Had A Written Report Which States Its Been In A Crash And The Work Done Is Crap!!!! The Inner Wing Isnot Behind Plastic If You Open The Bonnet Look To You Left Before The Suspension Its There I Took It Back To Him After A Month Of Buying It He Says "wasnt There" Only Did I Know How Bad It Was When It Ripped My Inner Tyre Off And We Had To Replace It .....

as i said m8

h reg it will not have had an sva, so no comeback there

and sva does not pick up on those kind of things, you can actually have bald tyres as long as they meet european specs, an sva is more for safety of pedestrians than the condition of the car, ie sharp nuts will fail, if the radio buttons protrude to much it will fail, so best to forget the sva route as it wont help, i would be more inclined to get a metal expert to look and let you know when he thinks the work was done, then look towards suing the garage
