S.E. blown engines

How reliable is S.E.'s engine work? I've heard (from you guys) that it's not exactly tip top! Who's had any bad (engine failure) experiences at S.E., and want's to spill the beans?

I need a rebuild (new pistons) and want to know where there's a decent place (not too far from London) to get the work done. Any good ideas?

Hope this post gets a few replies!!!

Am gonna be gettin one of those, one day...(sigh) :D

Well I would be interested, my car is about to get a major engine re-build @ SE. I have heard of other places doing unsatisfactory re-builds but as yet not SE. SE problems seemed to be related to Customer relations and some tuning issues.

Anyone with major Engine re-build problems please speak up.

Peter at SE is more than capable of carrying out a full engine rebuild on the 300ZX. Reliability shouldn't be an issue providing you don't start to go off the track with major tuning.

As mentioned above I think previously related problems with SE are linked with tuning.

You will want to find out how quickly any company can complete a full engine rebuild as you may be surprised how long it can take.

I probably wouldn't recommend anyone else (not too far from London) to do the work apart from Darren who is fully booked until next year.

Mines just been finished at RC Developments.

schedule it as a 40hour job which includes any modifications such as turbo's, flywheel, injectors etc, setting up any electronic gadgets too, hourly rate is less than SE, happy with the customer care too, but will never go back down Essex way !!

Smithy

Kiki at Option is more than capable. Option is based at Silverstone.

Hiteq is No.1 choice based Wigan.

Give me a call and I will advise.

Right, not sure on that front mate, my car has been with SE for some months now. Let me just get one thing straight before it all goes well pear shaped! Pete knows what he's talking about and to be honest I haven't wanted my car to be rushed or finished until now. Reason? I've not had a garage or anything secure to store my car, I used to live down a farm track in de Wales...Aiiii...which meant that I used to have to park my car outside my Bro geeZerZ house over the weekend.

So, I've moved this weekend into a new house with a garage, SE have been aware of this and apparently my car has been finished.

I was in for some top end engine work, on Petes recommendation my heads needed work, valve work etc. etc.

I can say that I have been trying to get a figure for how much I owe them for weeks now, and still no joy!

I asked them to replace the engine bay wiring loom before the engine was put back in. This makes sense as the part is about 350 squid(ish) but the labour with the engine in is about 2/3 days with a main dealer.

So, sound-bite from S.E. to say that my car is done, then I obviously want to speak to Pete/Dave or anyone who can tell me what the score is with my car...NOTHING! Have been phoning SE all last week, leaving messages for Pete to ring me back but no phone call.

There is a new guy on the desk aswell, Andy, who has taken over from Paul. Nice guy who is obviously learning the job, but everytime I phone and ask for a call-back no joy!

I will endeavour to get the two vital bits of info. that I need this week, but if I don't know a) how much I owe S.E. for my car and b) what the state of the car is by this coming Friday...I will get very upset!

Pete, wake up mate, I know that you are seriously snowed under and I've seen evidence of this on other Nissan related forums but you need to address these issues. Not good for customer relations!

You've been very good with me but I do get annoyed when I hear that my car is finished but can't even get hold of you or anyone else as to what's going on with my car!!!

When you posted the question about "what can S.E. do to improve our service?" I can honestly say that not alot has changed!

This is by no means a DIG at SE either, I know loads of people who are more than satisfied with the work they've had done at SE and I'm confident that my car is FINE! But the phone back thing needs to be sorted.

Sorry but dont trust SE as far as I can throw them!!!!!

Saw them attempting to reprogram the ECU, I think some guyz here have had an SE chip, and there was mentions of detenation.

Depends on where you are in London, I have two recommendations:-

1 CTM in Essex for carrying out the actual rebuild, but you will need to find some one to remove the engine. They do all the machine work etc. These are the best people, perform work for most top motorsport teams. So beware they get very busy at the end of the season preparing engines for the new season.

2 My mechanic Steve who is based in Reading would also be able to assist. Again trust worthy and reliable.

I dont even have to speak anymore lol

I had an SE chip 8 months ago and the car is running perfect.

Timmyturbo has Paul left SE?

Paul is still there mate, he's moving over to the mail order department!

Phoned again this morning, still no joy...this is getting rediculous!

Not fookin' happy!!!

300ti.jpg

I have got Pete's mobile no I will try and dig it out for ya m8

Timmy with the money your spending I think you should be shown a bit more service and respect than ignoring your calls. I would have thought they would want the money ASAP. It makes you wonder if its really finished or if they are struggling to get it running properly.

I would go down with spare keys and just take it, I bet they soon get the bill to you then.

Paul

Tim,

You gonna be collecting it on Friday or Saturday ? I may have to go over myself sometime around then.

Funny that's what my Mrs. said...they are stalling for some reason!!!!

Not gonna read too much into it but I do agree, if the car was done and dusted and running OK you'd have thought that they'd be hassling me...Hmmmm???

Andy,

Not going down there and wasting petrol and my time to get there unless I know that the car is OK and how much I owe them!!! Not much to ask is it?

I live in Wales for Christs sake and my car is in Essex, I'm not being pissed about as it's gonna be a right pile of hassle for me to pick the car up.

300ti2.jpg

I was working on the assumption that you'd know by then !!!! wink.gif

And,

I would do if I could speak to anyone at SE! Bloody nightmare, I think Pete is avoiding me!

300ti1.jpg

I've ALSO been calling them since last week (must be at least 6-7 times) to see when/if they can rebuild with forged pistons (and maybe some porting & high-lift cams too), and guess what? No reply from Pete !!

From what I've heard on this site, Pete knows his engines, but ignoring his customers (especially those who have spent £1000's at SE - I've had my turbos replaced by hybrids + intercoolers, air filters etc) is BAD for business and at his own peril!

The problem is, what alternatives are there to the SE tuning parts such as pistons, cams etc? HKS stuff isn't cheap and is probably adapted (from their basic product range) to suit the 300ZX TT. Sure there are other aftermarket products from Greddy, Stillen etc, but who knows how to match them up and extract the best from them?

biggrin.gif My woman is getting annoyed aswell, reason? Coz the first thing I have to do when I wakeup now is phone SE! It's affecting me luuurrvvvveeee life aswell! You upset me Mrs. and Osama B. Laden is a Siamese in comparison...

Mrs. TT: "oi, big boy...what are you doing that is more important than me?"

Mr. TT: "sorry baby girl...just ringing SE!"

Let this be a lesson learned !!!!!!!!!!

I really am quite suprised S.E. Are avoiding you Timmy, i mean a company with a reputation such as .SE......PPRROOOOMMUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Sorry about that biggrin.gif

The main bone of contention with SE is their atitude and customer care. I went to RC based on someones experience from this club, who had nothing but praise for them. In the time my car has been there a number of problems were thrown their way, dealt with very happily, i am informed on a weekly basis of my cars progress and any problems that may exist. 9 times out of ten i speak to head mechanic Clive when i phone up to ask questions etc, on 3 visits there i was made to feel welcome, given tea, chips etc, so all this straight away improves on SE, final prove will be to see how car performs, but i have never questioned Peter Rosenbergs ability to build an engine either, having said that, i do know that you Iain had goods ordered for ages, as they are 1 of only 2 distributors in the UK for that item, i had to tell you where else to get it, which you did in days, also bear in mind the so called "boost creep" on the boost upgrade, that is such a common thing i hear about when cars are having that particular job done!!there cannot be many people out there who always use SE for both tuning and mail order who can honestly say they are entirely happy. I havn't even gave my account of my Zeds problems which i believe could be from SE's workmanship BEFORE i even bought it, will do soon though, Smithy

At last wink.gif

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Not laughing, grinning like a cheshire cat!

Phoned SE at lunchtime, told Andy that I'd been ringing all last week. My car is finished, he gave me the bill figure which is what I most defo needed. I told him that I needed to either speak to Pete or Dave about the state of my car and was it OK now???

Andy rang me back later this afternoon and apparently it's much better now thankyou! biggrin.gif

So will let you know in a couple of weeks when I down to Essex to pick it up! I was told by Arriva after they'd looked at my car "yeah, it's fine now!" but when I went to pick it up, no different!

Hope it is sorted, not much more fight left in me now and this is a HUGE bill by any standards. NO, not SE being expensive, quite good actually considering a new wiring loom and rad. in the equation aswell. So at the moment I'm tranquil again. wink.gif
