I think this car is cursed, no way am i going to make it to Billing AGAIN!

I've tried adjusting the clutch pedal but there's still almost no movement on the slave cylinder on the box

I've bled the system 3 times from the 3 screws (newer type master cylinder) and there's no air coming out.

I presume it's go to be a faulty master or slave cylinder but how can I find out which one?

Slave cylinder is fairly cheap but not sure about the master cylinder...

Has anyone got spare ones I can borrow or buy?

When you say you have adjusted it do you mean you have adjusted this ?

clamp off the clutch flexi hose - the pedal should now be pretty solid if the master cyl is ok & no air in system.

if the pedal sill goes to the floor, then you either still have air in, or the master cyl is fooked. if the pedal is firm then the slave is fooked ;)

if the slaves not leaking then its more than likely an internal leak in the master cyl IME.

NOOOOOOO Chris ffs this car needs to come to billing dont give up this early!! :D

I've not had chance to do anything on the car this weekend but I'll try those tricks tomorrow night.

Getting too close to get spares though I think :(

Also the car is smoking like a bonfire so I'm beginning to think the "new" turbo's might have a problem or something worse

Yes when I first started the fork on the back of the pedal was fully extended on the end of the threads and the slave cylinder moved about 5mm.

Tried turning it so the shaft stuck through by more than a cm and all it did is lower the pedal further to the floor and stopped any movement of the slave.

If the booster goes faulty could it stop the master cylinder working?

I've unplugged the vacuum hose to it to remove it's assistance anyway.

Firstly i think u've adjusted it the wrong way, but sounds like you wouldn't have got much more travel out of it anyway. Slave or master could be shafted, ur welcome to have my slave for free if u want, it's used but i know it is fine. If it was leaking surely you would know though?

Anyway i went through clutch problems for ages, i changed the actual clutch assembly (smithy rps jobby), master and slave....The problem was air...I must of bled it 10-15 times.. I suggest give it a good go the proper way, hopefully at a decent speed, if no good try a pressure bleeder, if u have enough pressure constantly pushing u might eventually get the air out.

Ofcourse it could be something else, but i bet u £1.50 that's the problem..

I'll try bleeding it again tomorrow then.

I'm not getting any leaks from the slave cylinder so does that mean it's OK?

I was thinking that the only way it could go faulty would be for it to leak.

So that reall only leaves the master or it's not bled properly.

Chris why don't you give me a ring, I went through this problem and I am fairly sure it is adjustment of the pedal that needs to be done here!

All i'm saying is i blead it a hell of alot, got through a fair few bottles of fluid. Replaced the whole clutch system costing me around £500 i expect, and in the end it was just more air in the system. I just imagine there must be point(s) in the line where the air likes to get stuck.

A faulty slave would leak visibley i would have thought, a master would probably visibly leak aswell, but i guess the seal round the piston leaking might not mean it leaks externally. Stand to be corrected tho.

Yea as i said b4, i'm pretty sure u wound it the wrong way..

Well it was as far to the end of the rod as it would go when I started so the pedal was as high as possible.

I adjusted it so the screw was half way towards the booster and it was far worse.

I couldn't have adjusted it any further the other way :(

So just to clear this up you are adjusting it this way right ?

So the bolt goes futher into the booster ?

Yes and it made no difference.

Just spoken to Topless and he says it needs to be be just right to have the effect. I might have adjusted it too far.

if the servo had gone bad, you would still be able to operate the clutch, it would just be a lot heavier

I bled the system again tonight using a £4.99 bleed kit from Halfords and it's sorted!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Loads of air came out this time but don't understand why doing it 3 times before there wasn't a bubble in sight.

Think it must have been to do with it standing since saturday the air has risen to the top of the system and got pushed out.

Who knows but I finally drove it round the block tonight! :D

Now get your finger out and get things sorted for billing :D

For you I'll get 2 fingers out, in V formation :D ;)

 Nice one mate! What's left to do on it?

Well it's smoking like a chimney at the moment but other than that it's just bumper back on and interior trim bits back then MOT.

Chris.

slave cylinder was £50 ish

Master was £75

Still waiting for it all to be put back together..

Told you!!!

That's £1.50 you owe me... Although u didnt actually agree to the bet.. ;)

vaccum bleed clutch system to remove air from system (large section of washer pipe, vertical and suck really hard), you will be able to see air bubbles as they come out

I've got no booster connected at the moment and the RPS Max clutch needs an elephant to press it down.

It's almost impossible to slip it for hill starts etc LOL

  • 2 weeks later...

Yeah I had a Max in the first Z and no booster tanks because it was a dodgy auto conversion!

Legs like tree trunks after 6 months of that. :D
