I'd drain the tank if I were you (hose pipe and a good sucking action, maybe you should make the wife do this bit? :o ) and fill it up again with optimax, maybe shove a litre of methanol in there too, that diesel is going to leave all kinds of filth all through your engine...

the only proplem i have is finding somthing which will hold over £35 of fuel and where to put it

might put a post on my local club web site selling cheap fuel and put it stright into there cars some boy racer will have it

My Mrs often has this as she runs a car hire firm over here and punters put the wrong fuel in, with a petrol car that's had deisel put it they just fill it up completly with fresh petrol and they run fine, with a deisel car that's had petrol put in, it's down to the local garage to be drained out and flushed through, so personally i'd run her around until you've almost used it all and after time it will be fine, after all it was only a fivers worth ! buts that's me !

smithy

Hi mate

I'd go with what Smithy said. After all £5 is little over a gallon nowadays

Go back and fill the whole tank with petrol then when its half empty fill up again to dilute it further.

Any probs after that, get a decent fuel system cleaner like redline stuff from demon tweeks, or the new Comma full system cleaner at £14 from Halfords.

Should be ok....

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Dont forget to replace the fuel filter, car will be fine if you drain it of fuel or burn it off,may smoke a bit though, this happend to me many years ago,Donna put desiel in me XR3i,one thing desiel will do is lubricate your upper cylinders/valves nicely ;)

Tony

As before...Diesel is only oil afterall and a fiver worth is not a lot compared to a tankfull!!

Might smoke a little for a while but it will clear in time so dont worry about it...

Interestingly...if you have a diesel engine that smokes and you want to sell it...put a squirt of unleaded in the tank to calm it down....sold!!!

ive got to say the car runs so much better with desiel in. theres a little bit of smoke but will change filter when its empty

As said abiove. No need to drain the tank.

Before you change the filter make sure you are almost on empty, this should get all the crap up from the bottom of the tank as well as the dilluted diesel.

just dont go booting it until youve filled up again, you will be more likely to get det even with a fivers worth in.

drive until empty then fill up to the brim with optimax & fuel cleaner
