Over Heating

Hi Guys

Should i be concerned....

Yesterday after crusing for 20 mins or so I put pedal to floor for an overtaking manouver. The temp guage shot right up to max but went straigt down again once I pulled back in and was ok for rest of journey.

Today left car after 10 minute cruise outside local shop on turbo timer and returned couple of mins later and temp guage again on max. Started driving and went to normal (level) position.

Any help / advise as always appriciated.

Martin

probably the sensor-connector of the watertemp gauge is loose or corroded

There are two temp-sensors in front of the engine, the small right one is of the tempgauge.

Also check the coolant level - should be up to the top if you take the cap off.....

CheerZ,

The only time this happened to me was when my

water pump packed up, pissed all of the coolant over the road and the radiator was completely empty.

Check your coolant level at the radiator, should be full up to the cap.

Cheers ppl, bit dark now but will check in the morning.

I bet she is not happy as it was her birthday yesterday (one year of ownership with me) and I didn't get her a pressie.

That'll teach me to forget wink.gif

Have you checked the condition of your rad? If it's got loads of broken fins etc. that can cause over-heating problems.

Hiya Martin,

Had similar problems a while back and had my radiator replaced (along with all the other little bits that go with it). I defo think you should check the coolant level in the radiator (top-up if necessary) but also check you have some coolant in the expansion tank. Mine was bone dry and the most probable cause of my agony. The tank is behind the passenger side headlight pod and if you take the cap off there should be a long dipstick attached to it. Make sure it is wet at the bottom. Alternatively, take the splashguard off on the inside of the passengerside wheelarch, get yourself a torch and you should be able to see the level of coolant in the little tank. To my knowledge there should be up to 600ml of the greenstuff in there.

Oh yeah, just thought about this. Check the little rubber hose that goes from the radiator cap to the expansion tank. Take it off at the radiator cap and blow through it to make sure it isn't blocked. If it is then the engine cant suck up more coolant when it is needed and hence could overheat!

Hope this helps.

Goodluck!

Danny

Hello all

Well had a look and no green stuff in expansion tank but it looked like it had water in it.

Filled up rad and expansion tank with water (hope thats ok) and all seems ok at the mo. Could you please tell me (a car maintenance novice) what to ask for at Harrys and how much to put where.

Should I be putting some anti freeze in as its almost winter or am I taking arse smile.gif

Thanks

Martin

Summer or winter - still use anti-freeze wink.gif In winter it prevents freezing, in summer it helps cool the engine.... It also helps prevent corrosion in the cooling system wink.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

also try water wetter from Delta Oils (Redline UK dealer)

Do a search for Delta or 01476 in the forum for the number smile.gif
