Smoke signal

Just a quick smoke question... Took new car to be out for test drive yesterday and 200 yards up the road got caught in traffic - the exhaust was chucking out loads of white smoke; thought a cloud had decended on me

Little further on, after a short drive all was okay and never saw smoke for rest of 45 mins I was out...

As the car ha been permantly in a showroom for the past month since getting off the boat is this kinda thing normal or what?

What is the cause of the problem; All tests i did seemed okay (as per buying guide)Could it just be steam, as when i got back, left to idle and no smoke?

White smoke is water - blue smoke is oil = turbos frown.gif

Get them to do a compresion test and check the coolant level wink.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

T3rbo, how long did the smoke last?

Raz

probally only whilst in traffc jam - about 5 mins; as i said before once it warmed up didn't notice it...

Read since that it might of been condensation in the system...

To check the turbos, take the car out until it's properly warmed up (which is about 15 mins / 10 miles after the temp gauge says it's warmed up). No need to thrash it - just want it warm. Then turn it off for 5 minutes. Then start it again and just let it idle. If it starts chucking out smoke after 2 mins then it's turbo seals. Always do this test on any Z you're buying - it's approaching £2K to replace them !

Could have just been water condensastion.

normal on start up and if cold.

but if blue, then turbo seals,

you can see how the smoke hangs in the air, if it just disperses and does not hang around, then that is pretty normal, but if it hangs around in the air then it needs checking )and before any of you morons have a laugh i know this to be a fair assesment biggrin.gif

Used above advise (cheers) - no smoke at all!

Weird... but good

the car i bought did exactly the same i was told this was due to the car being stopped and started quite a few times not really being given a good run, after an initial ploom of white grey smoke when he started it i wasnt interested, i thought the turbos had definatly gone, anyway test drove the car for ten mins everything cleared no smoke at all, left car on idle when i got back for a few mins dumped the accelerator there was no smoke at all. i bought the car had it a year now still not any sign at all of rear seals going.

The smoke you saw was definitely condensation and the cause was the car sitting around for so long. The exhaust has collected water due to not being run to full operating temperature, and it this you saw dispersing into the air.

Leigh.

Have you done the static rev test?

Static rev test????

Is that something to do with revving the engine whilst dusting!!!???

Seriously, what is it?

Robb

Well,

I have a similar problem but mine is down to the rear seal going and the way that mine shows itself is if I have been in indleing for over 15 minutes or if I rev the engine to 3K when static and after 20-30 seconds, the smoke builds.

Mine is a white smoke with a hint of blue in it.

Try it and see if yours does the same. If it does then I think that you will also need to speak to the mighty Johny!
