.....the WHOLE world behind you dissapears in a flash of white :(

Easy mistake, moving (rather) swifty along, went for next gear, and got the previous one :cry::cry:

engine is toast obviously, but im wondering what kinda state the gearbox is gunna be in after that, anyone got any idea? would it handle a bout of those revs for a second?

Featured Replies

sorry to hear about it bud.

what happened to the rev limiter? Isnt it supposed to stop things like that happening?

Regards,

alex

yeah the rev counter stopped at 7600, but that just cuts combustion, doesnt stop it spinning :(

gutted, and easy mistake (knew i should have fixed them bloody linkage bushes!!!), but its only metal and £££ will fix it, plus the cars worth it :D

oooohh ouch :(

try and look on the upside - maybe time for an upgrade ????? :D

Regards,

alex

yeah, i was gunna be upgrading REAL soon anyway, so will get a another lump to drop in (no i cant live without her, shes my only love!) and salvage what I can of the destroyed lump and build that up, im guessing pistons, rings, and block are tooled, maybe hit some valves too (dont know the spec on standard springs but Im guessing they didnt move out of the way quick enough at them revs)

been thinking today about using that buggered engine to experiment with a big single turbo, like fabricating and stuff

Sorry to here that mate.

It's amazing how two little bits of plastic worth £1.90 each from nissan can fook an entire engine :(. I think this should be a warning to others if you have a lot of play while the car is in gear, replace your shifter bushes.

Yea that would work;)

Sorry to hear your bad news.

Sounds like I did same thing as you, blasting in 4th @ 120.... go for 5th... get 3rd... owf........ I was catapaulted forward in the seat, saw revcounter comming down from 7500ffs.. but i managed to catch it real quick with the clutch, drove home @ 30mph listening for any noises.. LUCKILY nothing happened.

Gearbox... my guess is it's going to be ok.

But as to Rev limiter saving you... not possible here, as the car it actually driving the engine, not the 'normal' other way round.

Yea that would work;)

BUT for how long? :x: LMFAO

yeah, thing is there was NO catapult effect, it just went /high pitch mode on Vroooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmm! then missfires its chuffer off and billowing smoke...but yes, this is a lesson, change them crap bushes lol

so engine swap AGAIN! :(

Commiserations...

I've never done it in the Z - nearly did it in the diesel once, now that would have been funny... somehow some part of my brain realised my hand was too far left at the last fraction of a second!

If you didn't get any shift lock I reckon your drivetrain will be alright...

...and I happen to be selling a minty engine and stock turbos, come to think of it - can't PM/email you though bud...

Drop us a line on 300zx@mentalists.org.uk?

u have mail dude

Oh man!

Hope you get it sorted soon mate.

Are you sure it's not just bent a valve?

no way, its rings mate, i no the colour of "rings shafted" smoke and its defo that, plus take the dip stick out and you can hear scrapage and smoke billows out of the stick hole!

Just wiggle the dipstick about a bit and hope it pushes the bits back into place - Sorted!

You've got to laugh... or

kinda swinging between the 2 emotions at the moment :(
