i listened to a green activist the other day banging on about big engine cars and the damage they do to the enviroment...the thing is whilst the 300 is big the fact most of us have bought the car 2nd hand and care and look after them means we are amongst the best recyclers on the planet..i'd go as far as to argue insted of Mr & Mrs Joe Public buying a new 1.3 eco friendly putt-putt they should have looked at some of the older cars on sale...logically such a car has already been made and to see it go to scrap would waste all the energy invested in making it all those years ago...why use more energy on new energy efficient cars when running an old one for a few more years would probably work out equally or indeed less harmful

rant over..... :)

cars are bad full stop. u can't just slag big cars - a smaller engined car can chuck out lots of cr@p if it's set up badly - much more than a well-tuned big engined car.

These natural gas cars are no better for the environment than petrol too.

Car pollution makes up about 0.001% of the pollution in the atmosphere. The majority of it is from the power generators and farmers! As usual we're the easy target to have a go at and get more money from!   Ecologists are political beasts too! Tossers!

Bloke drove a Smart 3000miles accross the states on ยฃ80 of petrol. Smart or what?

ย

A Zed hardly goes 400 miles from London to Glasgow on ยฃ80 of petrol but makes such a contribution to the country's tax receipts that we should pat ourselves on the back for our contribution to keeping such a just society.:)

Is that a fact?. I not being funny, I just find that astounding.

No, it's not a fact. I made it up to demonstrate the point, BUT, the amount of pollution that cars themselves produce IS negligible compared to other polluters who can turn round and tell ANY government to PISS OFF!! Therefore governments lay all the blame at the door of the car driver because they know we'll bend over and take it up the arse for them.

Same with lead in petrol, blown out of all proportion! Seems to me that kids these days are even thicker than they were when we did have lead in the petrol. And what did they replace it with? Benzene derivatives which cause CANCER! :xxx:

yep its a well know fact that 88.79% of all statistics are made up....:).....to quote Vic Reeves

ย

but that said i did see that mines, holes in the ground and volcanoes were responsible for approx 80% of CO2...pdq the car is but a tiny tiny part...and swapping a 3litre for a 1litre is tinkering at the furthest edge of a very big pie

Slightly disingenous, that... a lot of these other big polluters are only in business because people have cars!

ย

I could pat myself on the back for running a 13 year old car... but unfortunately I've just bought a brand spanking new one as well with terrible emissions and poor mileage.

I read an article in the Daily Mail (so it must be true ;) ) today comparing a family of four driving from London to Edinburgh in a diesel Passat or catching the train.

ย

Turns out the car is less polluting and more efficient per seat than the train

ย

Some anorack from a railway magazine apparently worked it out......

ย

Now that's good enough for me, I'm off out to burn ยฃ60 worth of Optimax........... :nono:

ย

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
