Gave the car a real thrashing for 20 mins or so last night but when i parked up and looked left i noticed a faint bit of white smoke coming from below the car, about level with the front wheel (engine still running

). but when i shut off and got out the smoke had gone and all i got was a burning rubber smell. is this my clutch struggling, or my brakes, or something worse?

He he, I've had this before. I think in mine the smoke was from the clutch fluid that was leaking (when opened bonnet smoke was coming up from around the master cylinder) and the smell was definately clutch.

Think my clutch has some air in (from the leak) and the bite position shifts when it gets hot. So tends to slip more when I thrash it cos it's difficult to tell where the bite point is.

could be the rear engine seal, clutch and flywheel off to do this anyway so both could be inspected

ok thanks for the pointers guys. smells more like rubber than fluid i think (oops forgot to put 'auto' in my sig! doh!) if it happens again i'll check under the bonnet (didnt have time to do this last time!)
