Well my first full tankfull made no difference whatsoever to the mpg and no discernible difference to performance - it just cost more and it was a pain to find. I'll continue to use it for about a month just to give it a chance and then decide. Maybe it's just a 'track day' fuel rather than every day.

Make a difference to anyone else ?

Maybe it only makes a difference for the more highly tuned engines and when they're driven harder than just in daily traffic ?

I'll publish my fuel consumption figures sometime soon and you can judge for yourselves. (If anyone wants a copy of my noddy fuel calculating spreadsheet then let me know).

I also couldn't feel ar tell any differance, I thought that it was probabally a waste of money at the moment as the car is only doing short runs around town, apart from the 160mph blast home last night, on a closed runway, officer biggrin.gif

I have an excellent piece of software for my Psion, it cheerfully tells me that I've sank £1053.83 into the car, it's returning an average mpg of 20.8mpg and, without insurance, it's costing me 19ppm.

The software, if anyone's interested, is Motoring expenses, http://www.motorexpense.co.uk

Bugger Optimax for track I'm off for some Carless! biggrin.gif

believe it or not I did actually notice a difference. The first difference was the change in exhaust note - weird but probably due to the speed it burns etc. The second was an increase in power but that could be because my fuel pump is on its way out and the optimax just helped a little bit smile.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

I tried a tank in the Kirk but again, didn't really notice any significant diff!

However, I was more impressed with the article in CCC explaining and showing evidence that it cleans the shite off the valves etc.

I'm gonna run it in my Z when it comes back from SE and hopefully stick with it for that reason. But I can't justify running it in the Merc. too expensive.

Well most fuels these days claim to have detergents that clean some of the crap, but I would be interested in seeing the independant review - if that's what it is.

all i know is that my car just doesn't want it.

i managed to get about £2.50 worth into the tank (airlock i guess) before I gave up and used regular unleaded (which worked fine).

guy in the filling station was laughing at me ;o(

i felt quite stupid untill i saw his shitty xr2 ;o) (no offence to former/current xr2 owners...or anyone who thinks they're shit and doesn't like the suggestion that they might be mistaken for former xr2 owners etc. etc.)

Ok for any of you who care, i filled up with optimax, on my trip up to the pod and noticed a concernable difference (perhaps due to my ECU?) plus one bottle oc octane boost, and i really am well chuffed biggrin.gif considering it is cheaper than my local BP.

One thing i did notice is my MPG went down usually get about 310 miles to a tank of juice on the freeway (yes i do drive like a girl) now im not anywhere near that figure frown.gif

but i shall keep on using it biggrin.gif

superguy.jpg BUFF MAN 300ZX SUPER HERO!!!! or is that DUFFMAN????

I noticed a difference. Mostly that the engine ran smoother, and the tone is lower.

My MPG has gone down too, but I can see a differnce in response in acceleration (honestly)

Just my £40.32 pence worth......

Stuff is expensive tho'

Am gonna be gettin one of those, one day...(sigh) :D

are you sure you all went to the right pumps..... ?

my mpg went up a lot the first time i used it, which was up and down the motorway

am doing some town driving lately, and the mpg seems to be the same, if not a bit better, than normal.

only thing i noticed was sluggish at low revs, especially while cold

i put this down to the higher octane, as thats what higher octane does right ? moves the ignition temperature up a bit....

definitely not worse, not by any means.

although i can see why it might be if you do a lot of short journeys with cold engines.... (shame on you)

All my journeys on my tank were round town and many were very short, yes, I know it's very bad etc. etc.

It is my main car though otherwise it's Shanks' Pony and I'm not a great fan biggrin.gif

I'll try Optimax again when I'm doing some more serious mileage.

Tim

I've noticed slightly improved fuel economy too. Also, the car feels a bit more responsive and the exhaust note has changed slightly. I'm gonna stick with it.

Andy

I would try a few tanks but it's 83p/litre round me frown.gif

Who was it that said they could get it for 79p and where do they live?

Tim

KERRRCHHHING!

Bloody hell that's cheap Craig, I'm with Tim on this and pay about the same he has. 86.9 at the Shell station just before Brum on the M6...robbing motorway bastardos!

79.3 at my local Shell garage!

I Pay 82.9 @ Tiptree Shell garage, it's 80.9 on the A12 just past Colchester but not worth going that far for 2p a litre.

My 200sx feels a bit better on Optimax and I appear to be getting an extra 1 mpg, will be on my 4th tankfull this weekend.

I wanna try this stuff in my 300. Engine still in bits sob sob.

What Octane rating does this Shell Optrex stuff run at??

And does octane boost actually boost all octane ratings? Ie I know it takes 95Unleaded sludge-shite upto 97RON but will it take 97RON Super upto 99RON.

What is so 'Super' about Unleaded and finally who is this RON fella?

Stumped up 80.9 at the only Shell in Harlow but was pleased to see it had dropped 1p since last time.

Useful link is ISpyPertol.com

You can get a list of the cheapest fuel near a given postcode.

OPTIMAX ???

Thought that was something you washed your eyes out with!!!

Was told optimax is 98.6 octane. Got this from the 200sx boys at the NTOC meet.

Mac,

Sold the Z in May and now have an awesome 113,000 mile 1.8 Sierra Estate (Chasseur no less) and a Chimaera for the nice weather (yeah, right!).

Still love the Zs though. Had fun having a race in Craig's Z against him in my TVR !!!

Would have been terribly irresponsible to have been doing 120 in a 40 limit. So we didn't.

Dave

Sierra Chasseur ... nice ...

bet you're gutted when you have to use the TVR. man i wish i had a sierra.
