Soon having my RPS clutch put on and rear engine seal done,

im wondering if at the same time I should have a new flywheel put on, im sitting on the side of the fence at the moment that says yes with only the basic knowledge that it will be a nice performace upgrade.

so what are the genuine pros/cons

It's been written up a dozen times Mike, but given PaulC's experience with it I'd be tempted to say, "Go for it".

yup. i can find no downside!! (apart from being parted with £350!! :D) not quite the performance some have suggested, but worthwhile nontheless. esp if your doing a clutch anyway :)

Go for it Mike - the engine is far more responsive. It's a great mod

I've got one ordered already an 11lb Aasco lightened Flywheel, can't wait to get it on there.

as Dave says, the engine picks up quicker from low revs. with a front pulley too it really is impressive.

knocked .3 - .4 off the 0-60 time with flywheel, intake & exhaust on my car :)

Hi,

I did consider this some time ago, when fitting a new clutch, but steered away with concerns about having to really rev the engine to pull away from a standstill (I could not face stalling it all the time in town) and loosing much of the engine braking when lifting off the thottle.

I guess it is all related to how light you go. Interested to know how you have found these 2 original concerns Paul?

Thanks, Geoff

geoff - i guess the people that say things like that dont actually have a lightened flywheel!!

i dont think ive spoke to 1 person that has one that complains about such things!!

on a zed at least, you seem to get all the benefits without any real noticable downside. :)

It definitely makes a difference on hill starts - but not a bad difference. I think the stock flywheel is far too heavy to start with, it's like driving a bleedin diesel. Much more driveable with a lighter one. (I drove a stocker several thousand miles before fitting a Fidanza, so I've got a direct comparison.)

I did think it made the car bouncy around town at the bottom of gears, but actually I now think that's duff O2 sensors that does that.

Anyway, do it, it's smart enough!

Mmmmmmmm.

Thanks Paul C and Zevans for the feedback. I think I was put off too easily.

Ciao, Geoff
