Post Crash Problems.....

Had a little spill 23 hours after buying a 91 standard jap import TT, playing silly buggers with a roundabout and telegraph poles....

However after getting all the bits i needed, wings etc... I noticed the oil pressure guage is completely not reading (the pointer thing doesnt move at all) However ive driven about 4-500 miles since then and checked the oil regularly. Any ideas? are the sensors prone to damage etc.. Also im driving along without one of the empty plastic boxes under the rh wing and it hisses when the turbos arent spinnin up (some sort of pressure??)

Also i hit the telegraph pole sideways (only did a wing!!!) the steering column now has about 1/4 inch play left and right. The steerings fine, goes dead straight etc etc. Again any ideas are all welcome....

Thanks guys

Sean

Steering could be the lower steering UJ. Mine had a bit of play, had that don and now its lovely and tight. Not sure about the rest though.

Sorry, didnt explain properly. When i say the steering column i mean in the car. The steering wheel attaches to it (sorry my level of technical explaining is shocking.....!!) i can now move the steering wheel to the left and right 1/4 inch..

Any ideas

Sean

Did the oilpan get damaged as well ?

It only needs a small dent to completely ruin your oilpressure (and your engine within a few hundred miles)

if you're lucky, the connector came loose from the oilsender which causes the pressure gauge to malfunction

the vacuum tank in the wing is used for the clutch..you can disconnect it without too many problems. (plug the hose that runs to it)

Not sure at all on that one im afriad. God i hope not.... there are no leaks etc, the engines running smoothly etc etc. How can i check if its had a knock?? Im now a very worried zed driver... especially as ive got to travel 60 miles home in an hours time.

If it takes a hit are there any tell tale signs that its about to screw up anything else??

Thanks

Sean

I hope it's not the case, but the fact that you have play in the steering wheel could mean the bottom of the car got hit as well.

Only way to find out is to take a look under the car.

The oilpan has a weird shape, but have a good look at the lowest area where the drainplug is..if you see a clear dent or severe scrape marks in that area then do not start the car anymore ! (or run the risk of severe engine damage.)

While under the car, you can also see/check the connector of the oilpressure sender..

Quick check for oil pressure is to look inside the oil filler cap when its running. If its swimming in oil then you prolly have pressure if its dry then dont even run it. The knock prolly jerked the sensor and pulled off the connector.

There is a locating point for the steering column under the steering shroud in the cockpit - undo the plastic cover and check right by the column - there are some bolts you can undo and move the metal holders either side of the column up tight to the column then re-do the bolts again. It MAY be that - just a thought. The oil senders are notorious for not working properly.

Opened the cap and ran the car, theres definatley lubrication there but its certainly not swimming...... Still really worried and no other option but to drive car cos of work.....
