Took the Z for a blast upto BHam to the Motorshow today. There wasn't anything there that would make you leave really wanting it other than some of the girls on the Renault stand. ();-) I'm a saint really!

I appear to have gained a hole in my exhaust. As this is probably a good place to start with mods, any suggestions on what to fit and costs. I don't want anything too noisy.

Also while I think about it is it normal for the car to change down gear on the auto box just by very very gently touching the throttle around 70mph ?

Stu, the overdrive drops out during light acceleration on mine although it doesn't kick down without a bit more welly.

If you want a quiet performance exhaust then the Greddy cat back system is very quiet.

Jez, has this fitted and sometimes wondered whether his car was running or not!

That's before he removed the cats.

It isn't normal for the gearbox to downshift by lighty accelerating at 70mph. It should normally take a bit more of a kick down.

Maybe you have the HKS ALC fitted which changes the way the valve body operates.

Yep, my greddy fitted better than stock, but was as you say, too bloody quite. I remember starting the already started car in Holland just after getting some flack from Steve about it!

The cat-removal has made mine sound almost exactally how I want it to sound. The Mongoose seams to also be popular in the UK. If you get a B&B be prepared for lots of volume and if you remove the cats you might as well remove the stereo too!

I paid over $800 for my Greddy, but it's now going for $699.95 at Turboimports.com. Probably plus a good $150 for shipping.

I lie, that was a supra price.

It's $760 for the Greddy PE and $720 for the less popular one.

The HKS is $679.. don't know if it was tuned for an NA or the TT though, wont make too much difference.

"The APEX Super Dunk Megaphone", well that's the first time I've seen that... intereting.

Make sure you buy the 2+2 and not the 2+0 (usually called TT in the states), different shapes. The 2+2 TT and NA are interchangeable.

Stu,

Are you sure it's actually dropping a gear or is it just unlocking the gearbox ? In top (which is 3rd or 4th depending on whether you've got overdrive selected), the gearbox will lock when it's not being pushed much - increases economy and keeps things cooler.

To check if it's this

1) select overdrive

2) drive at 70

3) do your touch of the accelerator to make it do whatever it's doing

4) immediately deselect overdrive.

5) If this makes it drop a gear then before you deselected overdrive then all that had happened with the 'box unlocking itself.

I got a a pair of Remus Back Boxes fitted which bolt straight on to the standard system. Then I got a centre and front secton from Silvia which they make themselves in Stainless. I have only seen one other 300 with the Remus set up. The quality is superb. They are a very fat looking twin chrome pair on each side, sort of squared / ovaled corners see www.elitedirect.com currently listed at £576.87 but i did a deal with them on mine. I am biased I know, but it is the best sound I have heard from a 300.
