i'm considering having the engine out to renew a few bits....

cam belt

water pump

cooling hoses

can anyone add anything else you would consider doing as a matter of course seeing when the engine is out...like turbo seals etc.....?

regards

chris

the turbo seals which you talk about are inside the turbos. You cant really look a them and see how they are.

How much are you willing to spend on the engine while its out and how long are you prepaired to work on it?

May wanna consider replacing the engine wiring loom. All those connectors get brittle and shagged from heat and age.

....and the det sensor and pcv valves.

If you're just thinking about pulling it just for those parts then there's no need to pull it - 5 hours work tops with the engine in...

thanks for all the thoughts...i havent set a budget as such (srrae) but was considering the idea that where you have the engine out for 1 failure/repair/replacement what would be worth doing at the same time...in an effort to save time/money later on....i note andy's comment the jobs i listed can be done in situ...so what if any reasons are there for engine out jobs with the 300?

regards

Replacement of the turbos although I am sure they can be replaced with the engine in place however it is easier to replace them with it out.

Too may ins and outs there .. lol

Just to be on the safe side:

Engine out,

Strip it right down,

If it weighs less than 30KG bin it and replace.

Should leave you with a nice reliable block and heads :D

Engine removal is only required for:

Turbo replacement

Internal engine work (pistons, rods, head gaskets...)

Major rebuild

Pretty much everything else can be done in situ ;)
