FFS XP - Now I get it installed and then a modem issue!

Right guys, trying you lot as the last resort as I have been on the Conexant Inc. website and to be honest I am none the fookin' wiser!

FFS! This OS is p1ssing me off big time, finally managed to get the sodding thing to install using a copy of XP Pro that Mrs. T's Dad has just given me as the disk someone else sent me (LMFAO) was corrupt! ;) :)

OS is now installed, but the MO FO that is MicroShaft don't provide a driver for f\/ck all modems...WTF is that all about?

So yeah I have a nice new OS but I can't do f\/ck all with it!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Jesus feckin' 'h' Christ, now I know why I went into Unix and not NT/2000/XP Pro/NT2000/Windows 2000/what next? LMFAO :)

At least Unix kept it's name for the past 30 odd years unlike Windows 3.1/Windows 3.11 for networking/NT/here we go again! :)

Help FFS! Getting well fooked off, so far XP has managed to trash all my HDD's and more importantly all my hard earned PORN! W@NK IMHO! ;)

P.S. if you're wondering where I am comminicating from? My CrapTop with dual boot Windows 98 and SuSE Linux...class! Does WTF it says on the tin! ROFLMFAO :) PC is out of intensive care but at this rate will take weeks of TLC to get it right! :)

You're going to have to give us some clues if you want anyone to help! :xxx:

What modem is it? What type - PCI, external, etc.

What's the problem? Does it not detect the modem or does it say it doesn't have a driver for it?

Hi Dave and thanks for replying bud, as far as the flashback goes it's a Conexant Inc. jobby...it's a PCI card modem from what my limited knowledge enlightens me.

Not sure of the exact model etc. If you have any way of helping me determine that I would be more than happy!

Just p1ssed off with it all, have installed two HDD's and have had to trash them both to get this f\/cker up and running...get the OS installed and then it gives you negat drivers for modems! :(

Tried the Standard 56k dial up jobby but it doesn't recognise that either...have tried both COM1/COM2 aswell but still no joy!

I think that unless you know the model type of the modem, you're going to struggle to get it working.

Most modems should automatically detect and use Windows XP default drivers, but if yours doesn't it's more complicated! :(

Have you tried running this - http://www.conexant.com/support/files/listmodem_app.zip to see what it tells you you have?

Cheers Dave, will go and try it and see what happens bud. Over and out +...

I'm not sure what sort of info that'll give you, but hopefully it'll detect the modem and give you some sort of clue what type it is!

By the time you've messed about downloading it, copying it to floppy, running it, etc, I'll probably be asleep, so, assuming it did detect OK have a look on this page http://www.windowsxp-drivers.com/companies/10/247.htm and see if any of the descriptions matches what the program told you.

If so, download it, copy it to the HDD somewhere, go to the control panel, then System, Hardware, Device Manager. Choose the modem in the list, right click and choose properties. Choose the Driver tab and then Update Driver.

Tell it to look in a specified location and then point it to wherever you stored the file you downloaded. Hopefully a driver will show up in the list and you can choose it!

If not, you may need to try another driver. If all else fails, you may have to take the PC apart and look at the modem card to see what type it is and then take it from there.

Good luck! :)

Go to PC world and buy another - 3com or something like that - they always work fine.

Yup, I got pissed off with Win 98 on my PC at home and was offered a cracked copy of XP. Great ! I thought....... until I had exactly the same problem as you Timmy! My scanner is not supported ANYWHERE, so that went in the bin, same with my modem and a few other bits. I eventually bought new bits, and now it all works. Only problem is that XP keeps telling me of conflicts all over the fooking place and putting up little bubble boxes of quite frankly USELESS information!

The ONE good thing I've found about it is that is doesn't crash quite so often as 98 used to.

Good luck!

If i remember correcty my old pc (Now running Fedora Core 1) has a Conexant Inc jobby in it and needed a windows patch to get it working! I'll have a dig round tonight and see if i can dig the drivers etc out. It may help.

Is it a PCMCIA Modem?

If it is, it could be that the PCMCIA drivers haven't been installed.

Does it make a bell sound when you pull the card out and put it back

in.

he said earlier its a pci card modem.

me had same problem two nights ago- xp wouldnt see the modem. Luckily me had a lucent win modem card kicking around which xp has drivers for.

If you got a network card in it and a pal with broadband, connect it up to the net and update the driver using the search web option.

Failing that its 20 squid for a new'n from good old pc world.

good luck mate!
