okay...........my zed is in the garage cos the thing kept on cutting out on me when i was driving thro town a coulpe of days ago, the engine would stop and my lights on the dash would come on, now this happened every few hundred meters or so then cut out again, I ended up calling out the AA and he advised me that this could be the crank sensor, but the bloke from the garage has just phoned phoned and told me that the ecu wouldn't give a correct code but he says that due to the problems i've had with the ptu he personaly thinks it's that. does any body have a clue as to what the hell is going on and where can I get a 2nd hand ptu from cos my local nissan are quoting me £227+vat

Courtesy delivered mine in 2 days and it's only about £130 all in.

Might be less with recent exchange rates.

Thats exactly the fault I had with my duff PTU.

try cleaning all the contacts on the PTU/Connectors first :)

Vijay

cheers lads  , just got off the phone to zed world and they got one for £100.

Chrisc - was she running smooth after your new ptu was put on?

Will do James cheers bud. btw is there any way of telling the diff by looking at them???(not seen a series 1 b4).

Yes, they are very different. The "old" one (series 1) has kind of metal fins on it where the new one is just a smooth plain black finish. I will try and find a pic.....

Series 1 has a silver heatsink that covers one side.

Series 2 is smaller and uses a non standard bracket as a heatsink.

Car ran great after a new PTU.

Mine began by not starting when really hot so I had to leave the bonnet up 5 mins then all was well even when driving.

Then one day it went really rough and died. After 5 mins it would restart and go for a mile or 2 then cut out again.

Took me about 6 stops to get home that day!

How old is your Z? If yours has started to fail then I would think yours is a series 1. I've been told a series 2 will never die.

looking at that pic and what youve described then I have a series one on my car at the mo, if the one that im due to pick up 2morro is a "old" one, will it make any diff?

or just look at James's pics!

How come the rest of the world got a recall on these and the UK has to pay?

I wouldn't personally pay £100 for a series 1. Purely for the fact that there is no gaurantee how long it will last. Could be a day, or a year or 5 years!

Get onto Courtesy - $180 for new series 2......you can't go wrong.

Okay James youve convinced me pal!

Join tt.net first for a discount on Courtesy.

And you got to allow for shipping and tax don't forget. The PTU for £100 could well be a series 2, if it was then I would go for that.

That discount finished about a year ago only the members that registered before that date get the discount I think it finished in Dec 02 :(

web site prices were generally the same or cheaper than the TT.net discount anyway
