Which Air Intake should I get for my Z & how much?

Which Air Intake should I get for my Z & how much will it cost?...is it worth changing on a non-turbo car...The cats have been removed & stainless steel exhaust pipes fitted, already.

apparently, judging by the numerous posts on twinturbo.net removing the cats on you NA is a bad thing, as you lose loads of backpressure and make performance worse.....

i cant say for sure whether that is right or not, but it is something to think about...

Yes, they do reckon that it impairs low speed responce, although having driven several non-turbos when looking to buy one,I found that it makes little difference. In fact, my car felt much more responsive..that's partially why I bought it.(The Cats had already been removed)

I have since changed the rear boxes also, and the response is much better at mid to high speeds.

Air intake, I would reccomend a K&N or K&N clone/rebadged, like Stillen, JWT etc. The JWT is quite popular, which I have... costs about $120. I don't know many people with the HKS, but I think it's much more money.

JWT claim a BHP increase of 4HP on non-turbos.... (with no other mods)

"POP-Charger air filters are designed for maximum air flow by using a 6" diameter venturi surrounded by an oiled gauze filter element. The filter element is reusable after cleaning and reapplying filter oil. Horsepower increases from 4 HP on non-turbos to 18 HP on the 300ZXTT are typical. Available for most late-model Nissans.

POP-Charger aluminum venturis are made from lightweight cast aluminum and CNC machined by us to ensure a quality fit. Special bolt patterns can be requested if we don't have your application."

I would recommend the 'Blitz' intake.

The quality is superb, as is the performance increase.

When I fitted one on my TT, the clutch started slipping- a sign that the intake had improved the power output:o)

Someone posted on tt,net that the Blitz yields 6 RWHP more than the JWT, a result confirmed on a dyno(I think that was on a TT though).

Jez,

That must mean we have up to 36hp more than stock by having two JWT filters :-)

Hey Steve, how about fitting a pair of Blitz filters in place of the JWT cones!

I think someone on ttnet has done it.

Dave,

Do you have apicture of the Blitz filter?

I think it would a good idea if I was able to extract the full potential out of the JWT filters in the first place! lol

I'm waiting for the right moment to get a nice pair of turbo's for my Z.

Who knows, a visit to Gyro when I'm out there next month might just put a dent in my already exhausted bank balance????

I think one TD05 per cylinder should do the trick.

Steve, you joke, but you are probably correct...

This dyno chart shows a 10rwhp gain going from a single pop to dual pop at stage III.
