Are they within pcv hoses????

kinda yes, they are actually bolted into the plenum, and some of the hoses then slip over them.

Sorry mate I haven't got any pictures of them close up.

 

However if you imagine the solid red is the valve and the outline if the hose. The valve is actually bolted into the bottom of the plenum.
